We've gone here a few times and the food was decent. Not terrible, but not wonderful either. More like bulk food type places.
We've gone to another Mexican restaurant in Asheville called guacamole and beer ( by the way, this place is wonderful), and thought that it was connected to the Ole's guacamoles in Black Mountain.
We decided to go back and give it another try. Bad mistake.
We got there and were seated relatively quickly. The waitress came and took our drink order. So far so good. She came back and then we ordered the combination platters, one with chili relleno and cheese enchilada and one with chili relleno and a chicken flauta. Both came with rice and beans. After that we just enjoyed talking and waiting for our food.
There was a huge group of high school or college kids on the outdoor patio. Things were pretty busy. After about 25 minutes the waitress came back and said she was sorry that we had not received our food yet. There was a huge order in front of us with the college group. We said no biggie and then just continue to talk and wait. Another 15 minutes went by and then they brought the food out.
One of the orders was wrong and we had to send it back. That took another 10 minutes. I didn't want to eat without my wife having her food, so we waited. Now the food is kind of lukewarm. The icing on the cake was that after all of that, the food was terrible. We have gotten better Mexican food out of the freezer counter at the grocery store. Oh, and I forgot. My wife reminded me. When we sat down at the table there were chips and dip left on the table that were not cleaned off and no silverware. We didn't get the silverware till after she brought the food first time and we told her we didn't have any.
We both kind of picked at it and ate what we could and then just stopped. Then the waitress never came back to check on us or give us our check. We walked up to the front they fumbled around and finally found our bill.
The manager asked me after I had signed the receipt if everything was okay with our experience. I was kind and said the experience was very disappointing. I explained everything that happened, and he simply said" sorry about that". His tone said "You guys just leave so we don't have to talk about this". And then he turned away.
The meal probably cost the restaurant less than $5 for both plates. And don't get me wrong, we can certainly pay for our food. But, you would think that Goodwill and customer service was at least worth $5 to him. He should have comped the meal and expressed his extreme regret that we had a bad experience. That might have brought us back for another try.
But what it did was ensure to us that we won't go back. I don't like that kind of service even when the food is wonderful. Especially not when it is less...
Read moreWhen I got there there was no host in the front and I stood there for a couple of minutes before the manager came out of the kitchen and asked what I needed. This process seemed a little bit on the unfriendly side and I was seated at the bar. It took 10 minutes to get my order into the system because the tattooed bartender was confused sorting out her money and checks from previous orders. A couple sitting at a booth in the same section handled by the same bartender also appeared to be getting irate at the slow order taking by the time their chips and beans arrived at the table. Then the kitchen took forever as well. Over 40 minutes is too long for lunch and although she was nice the bartender had other priorities than getting the orders in in a timely fashion. Nobody really seemed to care. Later she left and another lady came into the bar who seemed much more competent. This is especially torturous at lunch time when people come in very hungry and are in a hurry to get going with their work. However I would say that the fish taco on my fish taco lunch plate was one of the best tasting things I've ever...
Read moreI scheduled Ole’s to cater my daughters wedding over a month in advance because it was a small ceremony of 12 people so nothing over the top. They assured me that they could do it and then made no further contact, I attempted to reach out 3 times within the last 2 weeks before the wedding and heard nothing from them until 5 days before the wedding where I was informed that they decided they would not deliver the food and that I would have to pick it up even though we planned the ceremony schedule around them delivering. When I finally got them to agree to deliver, they called the day of and had the order completely wrong and were again refusing to deliver the food. At that point I called off the whole order because I did not want to get charged and never actually see the food I paid for. I highly recommend going anywhere else for your catering needs. We dealt with Eliana, and we were extremely disappointed with the service we received. My daughter and her husband were very saddened to have to change the whole plan the day of especially since Ole’s was a cherished...
