Nestled in the heart of Black Mountain, NC, we stumbled upon Berliner Kindl German Restaurant during a leisurely Thursday afternoon Goldwing ride. Upon entering, we were pleasantly surprised by the spacious interior, tastefully decorated and stretching far beyond the entrance. Despite not being drinkers ourselves, we noted their extensive selection of German beers. Opting for classic German fare, my wife chose the Reuben sandwich paired with German potato salad, while I opted for the knackwurst dinner accompanied by sauerkraut and cucumber salad. The sauerkraut instantly transported me back to childhood memories of homemade batches, though I found my knackwurst slightly cooler than desired, and my wife remarked on the bread being a touch soggy. Saving room for dessert, we indulged in the Kentucky Bourbon pecan pie, which was a fresh and flavorful delight. Despite minor hiccups with our orders, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The food boasted rich, well-balanced flavors, and the attentive and amiable staff ensured we felt right at home. The ambiance was inviting, with clean and comfortable surroundings. We're already looking forward to returning to explore more of the menu offerings in the future.

I love German food. Berliner Kindl is my go to place. The ladies are very nice and accommodating. All of the wursts, brautens and schnitzels are delicious. The red cabbage or kraut are a must. The spatzel is a great homemade accompaniment to any meal. The German potato or cucumber salad add a cool, well made side to the experience. The potatoes are not pancake style which I prefer but the home fries style work. Ask for sour cream and apple sauce on the side. They serve German rye bread made just for the the restaurant. The apple strudel with coffee (or an Irish coffee) is the perfect ending to the meal. For 3-4 people the bill will be $30-$60 plus dessert and drinks. Not bad considering a fast food meal now costs $10-$15. Berliner Kindl is high quality and local family owned. Support it!

Like coming home. As a kid, I always looked forward to visiting Oma and Opa each summer in Kircheim. Nothing tasted as good as eating my Oma’s delicious Linzer Torte, or Opa’s spaetzle, schnitzel and mushroom gravy. The reviews said Berliner Kindl was authentic and I couldn’t agree more. Both of our meals were beyond delicious. The atmosphere was authentic and our wait staff was attentive and ensured our food came out quickly and hot. We also ordered the Black Forest cake that was moist with a healthy portion of chocolate and cherries. For those Schwabs out there, order the potatoes instead of the potato said, which is made with bacon. Obviously a regional preference. Nevertheless, this will be my go to spot for a taste of home when we are staying in Morganton and Lake James area.

Very disappointed ... FIRST TIME HERE drove from Willow Spring NC to visit this restaurant... wanted to bring something home for my German mother-in-law. Decided to sit down so my husband could have a beer. The hostess was leading up to the very back of the seating area, when passing the beautiful bar area, my husband wanted to sit there... the hostess said there is a seating limit of 4 people. Perfect right? Well no the other couple who were sitting there were sitting so that no other couple could sit. The bartender did not want to ask them to move over one seat.... she said that right in front of us ... therefore we left... as we were leaving the hostess made a comment about how the Covid was affecting all of us. My husband said it wasn’t affecting us ....the hostess said we were fortunate... for me nothing has changed. As a dental health care provider and a germaphobe everyone has entered my world.... I wear a mask and treat people who are not wearing a mask. It would have taken a simple gesture to ask the other patron to scoot down one. I’m sure if they knew they would have even offered. So I am rating this one star because of my experience not because...

1st time here. 5pm. Friday, August 29th, 2025. They just opened for the night, so everything should have been hot and fresh. Ordered special for two. Everything on the platter was cold except for the pork chop. It was freshly grilled and good. No complementary bread nor salad was offered. Iced tea was hot with hardly any ice in it. Waitress not attentive. The kraut and red kraut was from a can per staff and bland. The sausages were pre-cooked and warmed up but not enough, mostly cold. No grill marks. No flavor to them. The bland fried potatoes were cold and at two spoonfuls, it was not enough for two people. The potato salad was cool but not cold and severely lacking in flavor. Not an authentic German restaurant with severe lack of quality to the food. At over 60.00 for two people, it was a waste of pur time and money. We will...
