I was disappointed after reading so many good reviews. We went to the Village Deli on a Saturday morning, very soon after it opened for the day. We received glasses of water with no ice and no straws, and mine had a bit of food stuck to the side of the glass. I am not sure how that happened so early in the day. The dining area floor also looked very dirty; again, a little odd that this was the case so early in the day. Between the three of us, only one of us had a phone that could scan the QR code in order to view the menu, so we had to pass around the one phone while we decided what to eat. And the menu you get from trying to look the restaurant up online is not current, and does not match the one you get from the QR code. Our server came by three different times while we were trying to look at the menu on one phone, asking if we were ready. I explained the situation, but she just decided it would be best to give us more time to figure it out, rather than offering us physical menus. There was no sign or mention anywhere about asking for physical menus, so I didn't know if that was an option. The server was not very attentive later in the meal; even when she came by, she did not ask if we needed refills or anything, so we had to ask for them when we needed them. And when she brought the check, there was no "How is everything?" or "Is there anything else I can get you?" Instead, she just set the check on the table and walked away. The specials board in the dining room had not been updated since March, and our server let us know which items were no longer available. We received our food without too much of a wait, but it was not very impressive. My breakfast included eggs, home fries, and one of their enormous pancakes, which was pretty good. It was larger than the plate it was served on, so I had to cut it into pieces before putting syrup on it. Most of the significant breakfasts did not include any meat, so you had to order a side order in addition. A side order of bacon or sausage is three dollars, which is a dollar more than an entire omelet with bacon in it. The prices were not outrageous, but I wouldn't say it was worth it for the quality of food we got.
Overall, the experience was not terrible, and the food was okay. But the Village Deli was certainly the most disappointing restaurant we visited during our weekend in Bloomington. The other local restaurants we visited had similar prices and far superior quality. There's also a Denny's pretty close by, where you can get anything you'd get at the Village Deli...
Read moreI don’t usually do reviews but my experience here was awful. The manager at the time I had went was very rude and disrespectful. I had trouble finding what I needed online for a carryout order, therefore I asked for some assistance. He gave me zero guidance of where the item would be only “all of our menu is online”. I was obviously missing something, yet he refused to help direct me to where it was. He also refused to take my order in person even though I was standing right there. I finally asked again and he rolled his eyes and agreed to just take my order in person. He directed me to wait across the street for social distancing purposes (totally understandable) while I wait for 20 minutes for my order. I waited 30 minutes in the cold and finally asked about my order and a different girl said I needed to come inside for carryout orders rather than wait outside. The rules were very inconsistent and the last thing I wanted was to be a problem. This restaurant staff does not handle stress well at all. The inconsistency of my visit was aggravating and the food was cold. I am a 21 year old women and have never had problems at any other Bloomington restaurants. Disrespect is never appropriate especially not in a work setting and especially not in a leadership position. I was very disappointed & do hope that the manager isn’t always so arrogant to everyone he speaks with....
Read moreWe went to this place after a friend recommended their pancakes. Even though I was told that the pancakes are 'huge', I didn't realize how big the pancakes were until they were served. Believe me, two adults can easily enjoy one plate of their pancakes. They make them fresh, serve them with fruits and maple syrup. If you are ever in Bloomington, go to this place. Authentic American breakfast menu (and they serve the 'breakfast' all day long). There is a lunch and dinner menu as well.
We also ordered a breakfast burrito. It was served with cheddar cheese and french fries. The burrito, I am told, is also a local favourite. One bite of this burrito and you will know why it is so popular. Eggs inside the burrito were cooker perfectly. So were the fries (not too salty and cooked to be crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside). The serving was a generous one that we shared (along with a huge plate of pancakes).
This place is also cost efficient. We paid US $20 (including tip) in total for two plates full of delicious food for 2 people. The staff was polite but a bit slow. There is outdoor seating available as well.
Overall a good place to get some delicious food. So long as I am in Bloomington I plan to enjoy this place, and certainly would keep...
