The restaurant was recommended by a friend when they visited the scenic railway a few months ago. They told us that they didn't get to get in because it was busy, so we checked it out this time. Wow. What a let down. This veteran owned business boasts that everything is made from scratch, and many "rules" line the edge of the menu, like be nice. Maybe this owner should tell the employees that. We got the spinach, artichoke and brie dip. Never seen that before and after tasting it, I completely understand why you never see it, disgusting. We got the banh jovi dip with aus jus, I sent it back after one bite. Cold, flavorless meat dosed in jalapeño to mask the poor taste. And all the other ingredients, I didn't even taste. I didn't even order anything else.
My friend ordered the Georgia's pride burger, and Georgia would be embarrassed if it saw that burger. They slap on half of a raw, bourbon soaked apple on a previously frozen burger patty add a thick cake like bun and viola. Trash.
The hostess was on her phone as we entered, and continued to do so the entire time, ignoring everyone and everything that was happening around her. Especially when I went up to ask if they could turn the music down, which was blaring obnoxiously loud, despite only two other tables of people trying to have conversations, which apparently they complained as well. We were told that the music stays on one setting and that's it, no adjustments, ever. So while the guests i had were screaming at each other, I just watched chucks of dust fall from the ceiling onto tables and people. Oh they also sell mech for some reason. Maybe in case you want to publicly show someone were not to go. As a veteran myself, it makes me question if a veteran really runs this place? No discipline, no structure, no respect, no cleaning, nothing good on the menu. The best thing this place could do is shut down and allow a real restaurant to move in. What an embarrassment for the city of Blue Ridge.

Read moreI had been here before and wasn't overly impressed but I was content enough where it wasn't a very memorable experience either way. However, I went a second time last night and had the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in a long time, maybe even ever. For a short read, the black beans have red meat in them and our server admittedly didn't know the menu. She did try to seem sympathetic but it wasn't enough for me to think she really cared. For a longer read, the whole story: They've got menu identifiers that point out gluten free, etc so they seem allergy/preference friendly - no. I ordered the nachos and said no cheese and no chili, add the black beans instead. To me, it was obvious I didn't want red meat; I also ordered a turkey burger for reference. When the nachos first came out, it was just chips with tomato, onion and jalapenos. I reminded the server about black beans and when she brought them out, it looked like just black beans and carrots but as I ate more of it - I noticed chunks of what looked like meat - my husband tried it and couldn't identify it as meat so I assumed that with that and me asking for no chili - add black beans, why would they still serve me meat? Especially when the menu made no indication the black means included meat. Well, surprise! They do. I haven't had red meat in 14 years but now thanks to a poorly descriptive menu and a subpar server, I ate it and got very sick to my stomach - some anxiety ridden I'm sure but regardless. Why would someone ask for no chili then add black beans that included ingredients of chili? Make it make sense. Our server was just clueless about her menu and said she'd get a manager and either she never asked or they didn't care but nobody ever came. I told her to cancel my turkey burger and she tried to still charge me for it and send it home with me. We won't be back but I'm sure a place like this in a travel town doesn't care about returning customers because they don't have to but I'd like to make...
Read moreMy recent visit to Fightingtown Tavern, a bar & grill restaurant, was a mixed experience that left me with conflicting impressions. While the service was wonderful, with a very sweet lady attending to our needs, the quality of the food fell short of expectations.
First, I should mention that the wait time for my party of eight was about an hour, which seemed to be the standard in the area at the time of my visit. Although the wait was a bit long, it was understandable given the crowd and the size of our group.
The service, once we were seated, exceeded my expectations. The very sweet lady who took our order and served us was attentive, friendly, and accommodating. Her exceptional service added a positive touch to the overall experience at Fightingtown Tavern.
However, the disappointment came when the food was served. I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich and was appalled to find that the meat was cold. It was clear that the sandwich had not been properly heated, which significantly detracted from the enjoyment of the meal. Additionally, the wings I ordered were undercooked, leaving them unpleasantly chewy. The fries were also disappointing, as they were overly greasy and soaked in oil.
On a positive note, the burger and tacos at Fightingtown Tavern were noteworthy. The burger was delicious, cooked to perfection, and packed with flavor. The tacos were also enjoyable, with a satisfying combination of ingredients that pleased my taste buds.
Fightingtown Tavern provided a mixed experience. While the service was exemplary, with a very sweet lady tending to our needs, the quality of the food was inconsistent. The cold buffalo chicken sandwich, undercooked wings, and excessively oily fries were disappointing. However, the standout items, such as the burger and tacos, were delicious and...
