Pretty great hotel option in Boston, with some caveats that are more flaws of the citizenM model in general than any particular hotel. I'm a MA local who took a staycation here so I'm familiar with the area.

The location is literally in the same building as the North Station commuter rail so it's great for transit. Easy access from North Station or the stairs just across the street to the Green Line as well. The actual area of Boston it's in isn't the most exciting IMO but it's safe and easy to get to other parts of Boston from. There's no parking at the hotel, and parking is expensive in the area, so I'd recommend taking public transit in if at all possible.

The hotel itself is pretty much as advertised. The hotel has a bunch of single rooms and then a 'living room' on the main (4th) floor for breakfast/food/bar/hanging out. There is a balcony that I think overlooks the TD Garden but from the labels on the doors they lock guests out of the balcony if there's a hockey game on. The living room itself is nice - they play music, but not too loud/obnoxiously, especially at night, so it's nice to work in. The living room could really use more power outlets though. No ice machine, which is annoying, but the food people will give you ice if you ask I guess.

The rooms themselves are small, but that's what you expect going into it. As with the common areas, there's not as many power outlets as you'd really want. In particular, the closest outlets to the bed are over the little desk, and a 2 meter phone/computer charger is a bit too short to really be comfortable for using while in bed. And there's absolutely no outlets on the side of the bed closest to the window. The mini fridge is also a bit disappointing - it's a pull out drawer that's quite small. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you've got a lot of luggage or need room to spread out, but as a solo person it's just about right. The big windows are really lovely. Bed is decently comfortable. You get climate control of your room, although you can't drop the temp down below ~64.5 degrees F, even in winter- turning the fan on to high helps if your room is too warm.

The amenities are alright. Breakfast gets you free espresso based coffee drinks the rest of the day - honestly it's expensive enough that I'd only buy it if I planned to get at least 2-3 cups of coffee over the course of the day. Important to note here that the coffee is actually pretty good, so I was happy to drink lots of it! You can get the coffee in a to-go cup which is nice. They could do with some more options - pancakes would be nice, or more durable fresh fruit like apples + oranges you can take with you. The canteenM is more of a bar than a place to get food - lots of drink options but little in the way of real 'meals', aside from maybe the loaded nachos and the two pizza options. I had the pizza the night I got there and it was fine - Boston definitely has better food but it is convenient. There is a gym, and an ironing room somewhere, and that's about it.

Staff were alright, some were definitely more friendly than others. I find it confusing that their app says you can scan your ID at a kiosk to check in but the staff member actually says they need to look at it manually - those things shouldn't conflict. When I checked out the woman at the kiosk area just told me to put my keycard in the dropbox and didn't say anything like a token 'thanks for staying' or 'have a nice day' or anything as I left, which I would have expected.

All in all, I would stay here again, but definitely make sure the room size and amenities fit your needs before you...

My husband and I had planned a long-awaited trip to Boston and booked this hotel in advance from 8-13th of july. Unfortunately, our first flight was overbooked and we couldn't board. We managed to get on a later flight and immediately informed the hotel that we’d be arriving late. They reassured us at that point, saying it was no problem.

Later, during our layover, our second flight was canceled due to technical issues, and we got stranded. Again, we contacted the hotel to explain the situation — we would still be arriving, just later than expected.

At that point, everything changed. The hotel told us that unless we physically checked in by 4 p.m. the following day, they would count us as a no-show, sell our room, and keep our full payment.

We tried everything to make this work:

First, we asked simply to arrive late but still keep the room we had already paid for. Same dates, same reservation — just a delayed check-in.

When that was refused, we tried to make a fair compromise and asked: Could we at least be refunded for the nights we physically couldn’t be there? They said no to both.

Even after repeated contact, where we explained over and over that we were still coming and only wanted to keep the room we had already paid for, they refused. They told us we could “try to show up” — but if they had already resold our room, we would be left without a place to stay. And they would still keep the full amount we paid.

This is completely unacceptable. We were not trying to cancel. We were not trying to trick them or avoid payment. We were simply delayed — something outside of our control — and we stayed in clear, constant contact with the hotel, asking only for what we paid for.

It is outrageous that a hotel can resell your room to someone else, keep your money, and leave you with no recourse whatsoever. That’s not just poor customer service — that’s unethical.

We travel frequently and have never encountered such rigid, unhelpful, and exploitative behavior. I urge other travelers to be extremely cautious before booking this hotel. If anything unexpected happens — even if it's through no fault of your own — they will take your money and leave...

My husband randomly stumbled across this place and made us a reservation.

Location is great. Right near everything. Staff were very nice and helpful and were always greeting everyone that was around.

The decor of the entire building was really cool and fun. Definitely different from your regular hotel.

The rooms……. Prior to checking In I read some reviews about how small the rooms were but I wasn’t expecting it to be that small. People compared it to micro rooms / pods. They are not kidding.

Extremely tight space. Especially for 2 people. If you have any claustrophobia this is not the space for you. Absolutely zero privacy if you want to use the bathroom. You can see and hear everything. The toilet is in the shower and the sink is on the outside. So gross in my personal opinion. How many hands have touched that door to get to the sink. I’m sure they clean it but still.

The bed is pushed up against the wall which makes it very annoying if you need to use the bathroom or need anything in the middle of the night and have to climb over the other person. Forget trying to get dressed one person has to sit in the bed so the other can have any space to move.

The lightening to do makeup was terrible. The mood lights were also only in the bathroom so that was a little strange.

Bed was a typical hotel bed. My husband complained he thought the pillows were way too high for him to comfortably sleep on.

The big draw is that everything is controlled by a iPad. Which now a days is typical in most houses.

The room we were in (930) had paint chipping off on the ceiling in multiple spots and top sheet had what looked like dirt. Unfortunately our view in that room was terrible. A view of a top of building with industrial fans an equipment.

Seems like this is definitely geared towards a quick solo stay.

Staff, location and decor all great. Rooms just way too small and cramped and they lack any sort of privacy. Desk isn’t even big enough to fit a laptop.

If you want to try something different and don’t mind tight spaces give it a shot you may like it.

Just was definitely not for us. I think will be sticking to the old...
