We visited to celebrate a birthday, but no one acknowledged to ask if it is for celebration which was fine, though a small gesture would have been nice. Upon arrival, we were seated next to a high-traffic area near the kitchen's double doors. When we requested a different table, we were informed that the window-side seating was reserved for another party. Instead, we were moved to the sushi bar area, which didn’t have the same ambiance as the main dining space. Notably, half of the main dining area was closed, if they could fully utilize the main dining space, it would greatly improve the atmosphere. For future visits, I recommend requesting a table near the windows for a better experience.
As for the food, we ordered the octopus appetizer, lettuce cups, NY steak, five orders of sushi, and the scallop ceviche. The 12 oz NY steak was surprisingly delicious and well-prepared, justifying its ~$55ish price tag. However, the sushi, priced at $25–27 per dish, was underwhelming. For that price, I expected more elaborate flavors, thoughtful presentation, or a unique dining experience. Instead, the sushi was served on a single, undecorated plate, small pieces of sushis. This lack of effort in presentation and flavor was disappointing.
The octopus appetizer was just average—small pieces of octopus served over 3–4 small potatoes, leaving little to comment on. The scallop ceviche, priced at ~$30, consisted of one scallop thinly sliced into five pieces with a basic marinade. I’d strongly advise skipping this item, especially since there was no clear description on the menu where that one piece of scallop is from, I would order it again if it is freshly harvested on that day from the sea. The server charged us 24$ for 3 tea, when we only ordered hot water. If sometimes we don't look at the bill, but for some reasons we did this time, and saw that charge. She removed it after we letted her know. She doesn't seem very present. That's ok too.
We had good time, because we had good companies. I would come again just for the steak. The overall experience left room for improvement, particularly in ambiance, food presentation, and value...

Full Review: My experience at LoLa 42 in Boston was nothing short of delightful. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance set the stage for a fantastic dining experience. We opted for outdoor seating, which offered a lovely view and added to the overall atmosphere.
The menu at LoLa 42 is quite diverse, offering a range of options from sushi to desserts. We started with a selection of sushi rolls, and each one was expertly crafted and bursting with flavor. The freshness of the ingredients was evident, and we found ourselves ordering more after finishing our initial selection.
In addition to the sushi, we also tried some of the desserts, which were equally impressive. The variety of options made it difficult to choose, but we finally settled on a few items, and they did not disappoint. Each dessert was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked.
The service at LoLa 42 was top-notch, with attentive staff ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. The food was served in reasonable time, and our server was knowledgeable about the menu and able to provide helpful recommendations.
