Travelers beware. My partner and I were asked to leave the bar after only two beers. We were in no way overly intoxicated, violated no rules, the bar was not too crowded and we were exemplary customers. Our thought was that we were accidentally confused for someone else - actual troublemakers. However, they then refused to return our credit card nor allow us to clear our bar tab. Very suspiciously, the manager would not even step outside to discuss it with us and the bouncers would not ask the bar to bring us our invoice in order to close and retrieve the card. We chose to come back to try again the next day when clearer heads could prevail. However upon return, we discovered that the bar was now claiming they no longer had the card. A quick check to the account online showed that they charged us nearly $200 for four draft beers. Clearly something very, very shifty is going on here. We will manage the stolen credit card (while traveling) with our bank, however, out-of-town guests should be aware they are being targeted here. Either by employees who can work their system to take advantage and/or by the establishment management itself allowing these sorts of experiences to happen when they can be easily solved through respectful communication. I tend to think they are complicit based on their very shifty behavior and refusal to even speak with us. There are a lot of great Irish pubs within an easy walk who will treat guests with respect and hospitality. Save yourself and...
Read moreVisited here twice in our short stay, and both times we had a great experience. The first night we had food, and both meals we ordered (Guiness Stew and bangers & mash) were delicious. Some of the nicest pub food we've had in a while. The guiness was nice and creamy too, considering it was our first time trying guiness we ended up having another pint each. It is expensive at $10 a pint, but we knew what we was going into given it's in a city centre, just be prepared. We then came back on Thanksgiving night, as it opened at 7pm (no food served, but we had already asked the first night so only came back for drinks). It was such a good evening, the live music was great and the bar filled up pretty quick so glad we got there early and got a seat. We stayed a good few hours and had several pints of guiness each, so it was an expensive night but I felt worth it for the authentic experience, the live music and festive atmosphere to end thanksgiving night with given most places where shut. I've read some of the other negative reviews on here, and I cant say we experienced anything bad about this place from the food, to the music or service from the staff, they where all really friendly and quick to serve. Not sure if we was lucky both nights or it's generally improved overall. I'd say worth a visit if your looking for a pint or whiskey in...
Read moreMy wife and I took a recent trip to Boston and knew we wanted to find an Irish pub, but there were so many, we had trouble deciding where to go. On our first day, we asked a local (with bright red hair and an Irish Bostian accent, of course), and he suggested the Black Rose. It was the best recommendation we got the whole weekend!
This is a beautiful, wood paneled, old-feel Irish pub with live music and a wonderful atmosphere. Often, when the band is playing and everyone in the bar is singing and clapping along, conversation at your table is impossible. But, there are plenty of times when the band plays something more low-key, or takes a break that you can have a conversation.
Our bill was $144, BUT don't let that scare you. Both my wife and I had multiple drinks (over $50 at the bar), an appetizer (corned beef and cabbage egg rolls), and ultimately 3 entrees.
We were really enjoying the band and hung out for over an hour and a half. Entrees, on average, were around the $20 mark, and we could've eaten for much cheaper.
Everything we ate was delicious. I've eaten at a lot of Irish pubs, including in Savannah, GA. However, the Guinness stew was probably the best I've ever had! We enjoyed it on my wife's trio so much, we ordered an extra entree of it because we...
