6 out of 5 stars! Can't say enough about our Segway Tour in Boston so I'll keep it (relatively) short and sweet.
First off it was a cloudy, cold and rainy July day and the pics are screen grabs from a helmet cam so they're marginal at best but wanted to give you an idea of the scope of the tour (although I'm not sure they will be posted alongside this review).
That said: Having taking the Washington DC tour we were "veterans" of using a Segway. Segways are extremely stable and safe and you get a brief instruction to make sure you are comfortable with controlling the Segway in the streets. Helmets are provided but we brought our own. They are self balancing and probably the most efficient method "sightseeing" available because your are "right there", in control and not stuck on a moving bus. Several times we got off to admire the more interesting views (and to stretch our legs).
We experienced 2.5 hours "Segwaying" the streets of Boston with a great guide (Erik(?)) who really knew his "stuff". We travelled along the Waterfront, to Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park, up around the North End, Paul Revere Park, North Park, Memorial Drive with a spectacular view of the Boston Skyline across the Charles River, over to M.I.T (bonus), Longfellow Bridge and then back into and around Boston including Beacon Hill and Boston Common. I don't think there was anyplace left to roam! This whole tour was peppered with interesting bits of knowledge and history which only a friendly Bostonian like our tour guide (Erik) could provide. One nice feature (and safety precaution) is that the guides took pictures of us and the surrounding views for us so we didn't have to fumble with cameras on the Segways.
I can't speak as to any other guides, but Erik was top notch with the perfect balance (pun intended) of personality, adventure and knowledge about Boston. He didn't just ramble off "facts" he added his own personal touch and Bostonian charm which we all appreciated.
8 thumbs up for this "attraction" as it's interactive, safe and you get to ride on a cool Segway for 2+ hours throughout the streets of Boston. In case parents are wondering if this would be an appropriate thing to do with the family/kids I will say that hands down (if your children are old enough) this is the thing to do together. If your kids are younger then I would suggest the Duck Tours. Forget the walking or bus tours because your (older) children will be bored out of their minds. The Segway tour will be fun for everyone!
Again, highly...
Read moreI'm writing this review 2 years later because I feel bad that I never wrote anything (I gave 5 stars long ago so not sure what date is going to show, but the tour was in Sept 2019 with Ariel). This was our very first Segway tour and the reason we try to do Segway Tours in as many cities as possible.
It was a great experience and absolutely recommend it to anyone else. Unlike the tour we took in Pittsburgh, which was an otherwise enjoyable and very pretty city, (but much like the tours we took in Atlanta and Savannah as those were amazing too) the guide really is what made the tour fun. Ariel showed us HIS city and that's why we loved it. It wasn't just listening to monotone facts, he genuinely seemed like he loved the city and wanted to share, with his own personal touch. So thank you.
Even though Atlanta and Savannah were both awesome as well, with guides that absolutely made them worth it too, since Boston Segway tours were our first, and the inspiration for the rest, we will always appreciate you guys on our future tours in other cities. Had the tour been a bad experience, we probably wouldn't have gone to other cities. With the right guide, Segways are a pretty cool first impression to any city. We are probably more likely to try out new cities than repeat ones we have already done, however if I ever found myself doing another tour with Boston Segway Tours again, and if all your guides make it as exciting as Ariel, than it would absolutely be worth it.
I know that this kind of Segway isn't made anymore, so I hope you guys (and all the other great Segway tour companies out there) find a way to keep going, which is why I am leaving this review 2 years later.
Oh and for anyone worried about riding a Segway for your first time.... Don't. Take it slow and easy at first if you don't feel comfortable, but it will start to feel intuitive pretty quickly. Out of the 4 cities we have done, I've never seen someone that didn't get it by the end of the training; Even those that seemed super nervous at first. Boston Segway Tours does a great job of making sure you "get it" before the actual...
Read moreWe are long-time Boston residents and have walked, biked, ridden, and driven through most of this city. However, when we walked by and saw the Boston Segway Tours sign, we decided to give this modality a shot - we were not disappointed! Tl;dr, we had so much fun and would highly recommend Boston Segway Tours and our guide Rick to anyone! We feel very fortunate to have had Rick as our guide. We walked in without a scheduled tour, and within minutes we were off! Rick is very thorough in making sure that you get comfortable riding the Segway, and once he sees that you've gotten a good handle on it, lets you enjoy the ride. Rick has a deep knowledge of the sights in Boston and the geography - he customized a route for us on the fly as we requests to go through different neighborhoods, adding interesting commentary in relevant locations or leaving us to enjoy the scenary as we cruised along the waterfront. He is also funny, kind, and patient, giving us as much time as we wanted to step off and explore sights by foot while standing guard by the Segways until we returned. We highly recommend booking the 2-hour tour. We had booked the 1-hour one, and by the 30 minute point it was clear that we wanted to spend a lot more time on the Segways exploring Boston. Fortunately Rick had a light schedule that day and was able to extend our tour to 2 hours, but why take the risk? All in all, we had an unforgettable experience re-visiting a city that we know and love, and we highly recommend Boston Segway Tours (and Rick) to visitors and residents of...
