Bostonia Public House — Restaurant in Boston

My family and I went here the day after Thanksgiving as a special holiday trip since we live over an hour away from Boston and turned out to be the best place we could've chosen! I made a reservation through the OpenTable reservation app and when we arrived at the restaurant they seated us right away. The hostess was amazing as when we first arrived we didn't like where our table was placed, and then when we moved to another it was right next to the kitchen, where the music played very loudly. Not making an enjoyable place to order. Luckily though, the hostess was kind enough to move us a 2nd time to a booth and made sure we were all set and comfortable! I truly have never had that happen in a restaurant before but our hostess was so kind and patient even when it was very busy. She went above and beyond.

After getting seated and finding a perfect spot for my family, our server Addison was kind and amazing. She made sure to give us time to decide what to get as it was our first time there and even went out of her way to make my sister and I a drink they did not have on the menu. My sister really wanted a daiquiri but couldn't consume alcohol at the time so Addison let us know she could make something for us based on what they had at the bar and was a lemonade base, which my sister wanted. She came back with a house-made peach lemonade and even added an orange slice garnish to give it the daiquiri feel and was so accommodating and went above and beyond! After some time of ordering our appetizers and entrees, Addison made sure to check in on us and ask if we needed anything even when it was super busy and a full house. Later after finishing our food and all of us requesting a to-go box, Addison made sure to get us the correct size boxes for our leftovers and even gave us a bag and willingly helped us bag up our food in a to-go bag provided by the restaurant. I rarely try new places during the holidays, especially on a Friday night, which is when we went, but this restaurant was an amazing choice and I highly recommend it! The dishes we ordered were super flavorful and probably the best restaurant I've tried in Boston when it comes to a simple American menu. It is such a family-friendly restaurant and very warm and inviting. I would be willing to drive over an hour again just to come back with my family and friends. Another thing I really enjoyed about this restaurant aside from the service and food is their ability to offer both vegetarian AND gluten-free options as one of my sisters is gluten-free while the other is vegetarian. The restaurant has so many options and took my sibling's modifications seriously. My gluten-free sister also reported that her food was very good, which is rare as a lot of restaurants we've tried do not have tasty gluten-free options/dishes. Imagine anticipating your first trip to Boston and then being met THE MOST HORRENDOUS customer service experience ever?!!! I was so taken aback by the experience I had at Bostonia on June 28, 2024 that it left the worse taste in my mouth without having the opportunity to even try their food.

My friend and I arrived at this restaurant as the first and only ones in line. The hostess at that time was on the phone and didn’t make eye contact with us not even ONCE! Of course, we thought this call would wrap up or at least she would address us, two waiting customers line. Nope! She proceeded to speak on the phone while the check-in line gradually grew to about 5-10 of us waiting to be addressed. Mind you, this entire time she has not looked up at all to address anyone in the line. About 30 MINUTES PASSED, before she looked and seated us outside. Then the service got even WORSE.

We sat outside another 30 MINUTES without being addressed or served. We were not offered water or a server to take our menu. Please keep in mind, this was not a busy day at the establishment…

Eventually, my friend and I grew weary so I walked inside, explained our extensive waiting with no service and asked for a server. That hostess, said that she would send someone our way and we waited another 20 minutes before we accepted the fact that we were GHOSTED!!! Shortly before we decided to leave, another party next to us also got frustrated with the poor service that they too got up and left.

We waited over an hour, without being addressed, horrible customer service, no WATER and still being hungry. We tried to give them grace (hence why we waited so long), but this was atrocious and clearly telling of poor training and customer service...

While visiting family in New Hampshire, we decided to take a day trip into Boston to see family and celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. We made reservations at the Bostonia Public House.

We arrived 15 minutes early and enjoyed drinks at the bar. My mother in law partook in the Bloody Mary Bar, a self-serve buffet of Bloody Mary toppings including the typical celery, carrots, bacon, scallops, and shrimp, but also the atypical doughnuts, lemons, limes, chives, cheese, olives, pepper and more. Others enjoyed beers and cocktails. My favorite was the Lord Hobo Boom Sauce IPA.

The table had an appetizer of sweet potato doughnuts with a bourbon glaze. They were literally gone in 10 seconds flat! Amazing!

Our entrees included: 1.) Lobster Benedict x 2 was "delicious"

2.) Steak Frites - "The highest quality food I have ever eaten in my life! 10/10"

3.) Lobster Fritata - Turned out more like an omelette with a slight overbalance of egg to other ingredient ratio. There was also an overbalance of lobster meat but she's not complaining about that.

4.) The Ultimate Burger - Lobster meat on top of a perfectly cooked thick burger?! Yes, please!! Perfectly cooked. Nice sauce. Good portion of savory fries on the side.
