Used to be a big fan, but quality has really slipped.
I used to enjoy Granary Tavern and recommended it to friends, but my most recent visit with out-of-town family was disappointing. We came in for a quick dinner and things went downhill quickly.
Our server started off by asking if we wanted shots for the table before even introducing himself. At first, it seemed like a quirky joke, but he asked about shots 3–4 more times throughout the meal, which got old fast. He hovered around the table and rushed us to order before we had much time to look at the menu.
Our drinks came quickly but our appetizers took forever to arrive, but the entrees came out very soon after—and at different times. The food was either cold or overcooked. There were a lot of little mistakes with the order which we could have ignored however the biggest issue was we ordered a salad with salmon on top, but instead received a salad and a salmon entree.
Our waiter was new and clearly hadn’t been trained on the system. He had no recommendations when asked and put our order in wrong. We tried to be understanding, but it was clear he was out of his depth. At one point, he and the food runner got into an argument right next to our table about the order mistakes, which was unprofessional and awkward.
At the end of the meal, the bill was a mess. We were charged for all the mistakenly entered orders as well as the correct ones. When I pointed out the mistake, the waiter wanted to fix it on his handheld and asked me to trust him that it was corrected. I insisted on a printed receipt, but it still had two extra salads we didn’t order. I had to ask again for a corrected bill, and again he wanted me to trust him. After a night of poor service, I just wanted to pay and leave.
I feel for the kitchen staff, who seemed to be doing their best but were likely overwhelmed by mistimed and mismatched orders. I want to forgive the waiter for having a bad day, but ultimately, management is responsible for putting an undertrained server on the floor before they’re ready.
Overall, the experience was frustrating and not up to the standard I remember from Granary Tavern. I hope they can turn things around, but for now, I can’t...

We dine here annually, and I purchased a $50 gift card for somebody as a Christmas gift this year. I purchased the gift card using the link provided on the Granary Tavern website which brings you to SwipeIt, a 3rd party gift card provider. We went to use the gift card during the holidays and when it would not scan at the restaurant our waiter called a manager over to resolve the issue. All this person told us was that he “had never seen this before and there was nothing he could do about it” and made us pay with our credit card. That was it, no other reassurances from the restaurant that this would be resolved. This seemed surprising as I showed them in the restaurant that when you go to their website and click Gift Cards, it brings you to this 3rd party, so we found it hard to believe this was a one-off case.
I called in the next day and a different manager picked up the phone, said she had heard of this issue before, and that SwipeIt would refund $50 back to my credit card. It has been a couple of weeks now and nothing is even pending. I appreciated the second manager saying that the situation would be resolved instead of the way the first manager handled this, but nothing has come of either interaction and this is unacceptable.
The Gift Card link for the Glynn Hospitality Group website also leads you to SwipeIt, so it’s probable that this is an ongoing issue across all of their restaurants. I wouldn’t risk purchasing a gift...
Read moreDuring a rainy afternoon, me and my girlfriend had came in to grab a quick bite to eat in-between means, not only did it have an amazing atmosphere of the authentic Boston vibe of a modern/colonial ascetic. On top of that the waiter we had was amazing and clear on such a rainy day. Due to the circumstances of how hungry we were we decided to get two small bites of food. Truffle friends and the falafel fritters. An on arrival they came to my surprise I have never tasted something that was more obviously sat out for a long period of time and served to customers. The fritters for example were not only cold, but fried? and so hard that a common butter knife struggled to cut in half. Which leads you to the only one conclusion that these were either made then left out for someone to order or worse, they hwpt refrying them as a method of preparing them leading to this thick earthy shell. Once into pieces the theme of hockey puck continued into the taste for which there was none. Unfortunately the way this dish had turned out made me dislike almost every part of this restaurant. When it was time to go after a short time later our waiter had randomly apologized about general aspects, stating that due to the heavy rain there was an increase of customers causing some rush. As this might be an understanding for waiting service, I cannot excuse this for both how food is...
