The Green Dragon Tavern, which opened in Boston around 1654 (sometimes cited as 1657), was a famous meeting place during the colonial period. Located on Union Street, it became known as the "Headquarters of the Revolution" due to its association with the American Revolution.

Here are some key points about the Green Dragon Tavern:

Colonial Era Pub: The Green Dragon started as a typical colonial tavern, offering food, drink, and lodging to locals and travelers. Over time, it became a popular gathering spot for various social, political, and civic activities.

Revolutionary Activity: During the lead-up to the American Revolution, the tavern became a meeting place for prominent figures such as Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams. It was within these walls that the Sons of Liberty and other revolutionary groups planned key actions, including the Boston Tea Party in 1773.

Symbol of Rebellion: The tavern's role in hosting discussions and planning sessions for the revolutionaries gave it a legendary status. It was seen as a symbol of resistance against British rule.

Freemasonry: The Green Dragon Tavern also served as a meeting place for the Freemasons. Some accounts suggest that the building housed a Masonic lodge in the upper floors.

Legacy: The original Green Dragon Tavern was demolished in 1854, but its legacy lives on in Boston's history. Today, there is a modern Green Dragon Tavern in Boston that commemorates the original, although it is not located on the same site.

The Green Dragon Tavern remains a significant historical site due to its association with the early days of American independence and the crucial role it played in the Revolutionary War.

Our family wanted to visit this historic site. Beautiful original wood, the front of the tavern is something you'd see in another country. I adored how the windows were opened up for us to enjoy the scenery and people walking the streets of Boston. The customer service was spot on. Very friendly and prompt to serve. We didn't order any of the main entrees, instead we shared an order of the fried zucchini and loaded potato wedges. Can't forget the cold Sam Adam's Lager. If you love history, you don't want to skip...

I had the Ben Franklin burger which was put together very nicely. Very tasty and I enjoyed it almost very much. I guess I was expecting a bit more from a very cool spot like this. My wife had the cheese nachos and I gotta say I was a bit disappointed with it. They tasted a little better than nachos I would buy from a Toco Bell or something. Now as for the oysters, they were on point. Very satisfied with the fresh oyster we ordered. Had me craving more later on that night. The Green Dragon Tavern itself was a cool spot to eat. Very cozy and warm with a wonderful mix of people. I loved the old rustic feel and look of the interior decor. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. I'm giving this place a four star not because of the food but because of the service and its historicalness. Eating in a historical place like this felt very special being that this was the very spot where the Sons of Liberty met up to go over their plans and whatever they went over back than. They met up so much here that it's called the Headquarters to the American Revolution. That alone is enough to pay the Green...

around the historic area this bar stands out for its unique looks.

around here there is street parking and some private parking we did not drive here just in case.

all the cool historic areas are within walking distance to this place.

going in we could see this is a traditional dive bar with a dark ages vibe, a lot of regulars sitting at the bar and the place is very obscure and pretty dark.

we came in for some drinks and food.

they have table service here and the waiter was not particularly exceptional, pretty standard service I must say, he did not do a lot of hospitality but plain basic really.

MALIBU AND DIET- the bar does not have signature drinks as I said before it is a dive bar so I just stuck to my regular go to here.

PAUL RIVERA BURGER- that is what I had here, I ordered without the bun. nothing special about the meal really, as expected.

this was a pretty ok experience as expected for a dive bar, no bells and whistles here at all. it is a good place to come when there isn't much going on and you wanna have a drink but definitely this is not a go to...
