We laughed because we're from GA visiting MT for the 1st time, and the 1st place that we go to eat is a BBQ place...and we're so happy that we did. We ate at the bar, which is our normal MO, so we could talk with the bartenders about local stuff. The staff was fun and engaging. The food, let's talk about the food. The menu has some old, faithful offerings as well as some new and creative ways to serve Southern cooking. We opted to start with the Redneck Charcuterie board. The smoked chicken salad was balanced and chunky. The Pimento Cheese was creamy with just the right amount of 'cheesy'. The Texas sausage had just enough kick to it. All in all, it was a strong way to start our meal. As an entrée we chose to split the Tacos de Birria. (We asked for a side of their chipotle peach bbq sauce). Our side selection was collard greens based on the recommendation from our bartender. The tacos were awesome. The tortillas were grilled, which gave them extra flavor. The pork/brisket combo was tasty and tender. The greens were spot on Southern. (We only wished that they would have had some pepper vinegar) We enjoyed the total experience and give Bourbon two thumbs up and a fist bump. We go back and you should, too. Support quality local food.

Hello, this may seem like a strange review but bare with me. I was hired by this restaurant as a line cook, alright that’s fine, when I arrived for my first shift and starting working I was horrified to see that there was food including raw food that had been stored out in the open, it was put on an ice bath, which may be alright for beers and such but not with raw chicken, ready to eat foods such as pasta, and chicken wings. And definitely not with Waffle mix. Temping the food I was mortified to see that it was about 50 or so degrees on everything, for clarity there is something called the food danger zone which is a very clear and easy to understand diagram of what temperatures are safe for food. The dangerous temperatures are from 40 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. And it wasn’t for short periods of time either, my entire shift this food was out. I’m telling people this as it is dangerous for elderly and immunocompromised individuals. I have already reached out to proper people to rectify this situation but I would definitely be safe around this restaurant. Thank you for reading this.

The appetizers are flavorful and just enough for each of a 4 person table to taste a few. The service is 4 star during the meal but once you finish it was almost impossible to get further drinks. 1 star on the dinner.. all 4 got different meals so we could have the full experience. None of us finished our meals. The grits were beyond horrible.. no one could eat them.. paste and no flavor at all.. the Mac and cheese was a solid cold lump.. the brisket was cold and dry.. the catfish was overly breaded and texture of a heavy grit sand paper.. Drinks were an awesome experience. There smoked Bourbon was amazing and the drinks just have a fun presentation. $170 later we went and ate dinner elsewhere. My thoughts.. great place for drinks and appetizers. Skip the dinner.

3:30 pm on a Tuesday No burnt ends No brisket No fried chicken No Sauerkraut for the Reuben No wings

Why?

Because they were surprised at how busy they were for MSU Move-in weekend.

Three days ago.

That's a management issue. EVERYONE knows when Move-in weekend is years in advance, and everyone knows that the whole town is packed and busy.

Failure to warn people when they are seated that nearly everything on the menu is not available is poor service. Which is also a management issue.

If your food delivery doesn't come until later in the week, figure out a backup source, or at least warn your patrons.

Our waitress, whom we suspect is actually a nice person, came across as terse ... as if it was our fault that they had very little available and we failed to assume that would be the case.

The bartender who sat us was nice. The girl who brought our food was nice.

I had the chicken and waffles. (We substituted chicken tenders for roasted chicken because they were out. That was my choice and it was fine.)

My wife had the cobb salad .... which was all lettuce and very few of the things that make a cobb salad good. It was supposed to have egg, but didn't. It was supposed to have guacamole ... nope. It was supposed to have Pico ... and didn't have that either.

They did comp the side of fries ... but we think that's because they forgot we ordered them.

The BBQ sauce on the table may have been the worst I've ever had.

If you want BBQ in Gallatin Valley your best bet is Bar 3 in Belgrade. (It's no Joe's, but we're a long way from Kansas City.)

If you want a cobb salad go to MacKenzie River Pizza.

If you want great service go to Rib and Chop House in Livingston.

Good luck, Bourbon.

If you want to improve I can recommend some local...

Let me start by saying, The young girl that sat us was friendly. The server that was waiting on was ok. However the ONLY piece of food that made it to our table was burnt, hushpuppies. Right out the gate she did inform us they were out of green beans, cream corn and fried chicken.

We were seated at 5:45pm around the dinner time rush. After an hour went by I noticed the table of 9 that sat down after us was almost thru there meal. The party of 13 ladies that was beside us had the option to change there meals twice. The sever finally approached us about the GM coming to visit our table. About 15 mins later he arrived to deliver the bad news that the only food he can offer us is appetizers as there smoker is down. :/ However he had the food for the 2 parties next to us.

Coming from the food industry, I'm blown out the water that this man could approach us with such news. I ordered Brisket, Collard Greens and Coleslaw. Bobby ordered a 2 meat plate of Pork and Brisket, Mac n Cheese and Collard greens. These 2 plates put this restaurant out of business?

Ive had to deliver bad news to a guest before but never would I, a manager or team member approach the guest with nothing in hand to offer. We drove 3 hours to Bozeman and had 3 hr ride back. This was the most disappointing trip to a restaurant Ive ever had.

Im 52 yrs old and have NEVER been more pressed to...

I came to the restaurant and I asked to be set somewhere out of the way so I don't be staring at that much. Their idea of tucked away with sending me at the high top table by the stage in the center of the restaurant. My server came I ordered my drinks and my food. I think I saw her one time after that. I left her $15 tip. I waited table for 30 years and instead of leaving her a 15-cent tip I left $15 because I was one of those people that go into a restaurant and it's prejudged so nobody wants to take care of them and damn sure they don't want to do their job because they think they're going to run them for no money. So young lady you're welcome I gave you a hell of a tip for not doing your job. The second thing was my fried chicken was way overcooked. Still I did not say anything. I kind of felt rushed out of there because I didn't have to ask for it to go box and I got that early. Matter of fact I got my to go box and I had not even touched my food. So I boxed up on my food and I left when I got home I realized that I just thrown $47 in the trash because the meal was 37 and I couldn't even eat it because the chicken was so hard. For that to have been my first time in that restaurant that was in horrible experience and I am so glad that I did not have my friends with me and...
