Your venue was the very first one to ever deny me entrance with my dance prop. A lot of people like to use hula hoops, poi, etc in a form of artistic expression called flow arts. Flow arts are especially common with instrumental musicians as well as a lot of new age dance music. Usually, talented flow artists are a welcome addition to a live concert, appreciated both by guests and musicians alike for the energy and aesthetic value they add to a show. While the sound quality and lighting effects were top notch at the Elm, the fact that I couldn't dance and express myself the way that I normally do was a huge hindrance to my ability to enjoy the show. The smaller venue in town, the Rialto, never gave me problems with bringing my prop in. If given the option, I will continue to support the Rialto over the Elm, because they allow me to dance and express myself; whereas the Elm immediately shut me down, without question, without information, without even knowing what I was trying to bring to the performance. I gave the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe it was a packed show and there was no room for dancing, but that was not the case. There was plenty of room, even right up next to the stage for the entirety of the show. I'm sad, because I'm sure that most artists are going to choose the newer venue in town to perform at, but I will never be able to have a great time at a musical performance that doesn't support dance. That exchange of energy, between performers and attendees is the whole point of going to a live show, IMO. So, if I can't have that exchange of energy at a live performance, I might as well stay at my house and listen to the music on my...
Read moreGreat event space. My only reservation and reason to not give 5 stars is the no re-entry policy. We drove 200 miles to a show there and half way through the first song we received an emergency call from our hotel about our room. I had to leave the show and was unable to return. I asked as I was leaving if they could make an exception and let me return, but the door person said no. I was incredibly disappointed. My partner stayed for most of the show and returned to the hotel where I had been sobbing about missing the show I had paid for, because the hotel employees were idiots. It wasn’t the elm’s fault, but if I could have returned to the show I would have been a lot less upset about the $300 I spent on gas, lodging, the tickets, and time off work. Thankfully the opening act was amazing. But it’s cold comfort. After this debacle I don’t see myself traveling to Bozeman for a mid week show ever again. Logjam gets plenty of our money in Missoula where we can walk home from shows, the Elm...
Read moreI came here with my daughter so she could see Waylon Wyatt perform. The show was good and the venue was alright. My issue is that there were a lot of underage kids being served alcohol there tonight! Nobody was checking IDs at all, and Waylon had to stop the concert twice because of a few these kids got to intoxicated and collapsed in the crowd. He even had to yell at the staff to do something about over the microphone. Also there was little to none security or event staff around. There was kiddos vaping, smoking cigarettes, and doing shots of whiskey out of flask that they had snuck in all around us the whole time. Nobody seemed to care! Especially the one event staff lady who was playing on her phone leaning up against the wall the whole concert. That kind of crap will get you shut down real quick. I mean C'mon man, there were 15 teeth years old kids getting drunk there. I know because I heard them bragging about only being 15 or 16 years old and still getting served...
