Well, that lasted about a month. The last time I used Access, I had to brush dirt off the floor before push-ups, avoid breaking a leg on a broken treadmill, and step around patches of mold in the showers. I've since switched to a different club, pay a little more, but enjoy much nicer facilities. Access is still an okay place for the price.
I'll miss all the friends I made there, though...
Second Edit Follows - Access obviously listens to their clients. Since I posted the edit (below), every single point I raised has been dealt with. Back up to four stars for now. If they keep this up for a few months, the rating will have to bump back up to five stars.
First Edit Follows - Things have started to go downhill since my initial review. New employees do not take the effort to remember my name, much less recognize me when I come in the door. In fact, there are occasions when they wander in more than an hour past the posted staffed hours.
Cleaning, which used to be immaculate in the days of Gold's Gym, has gone by the wayside. It's not bad, but could be much better.
Equipment breaks down, that's a fact of every gym. But, what used to take a day or two to fix now takes months.
Access is still the best place in town for my training. It's the only place that allows me to do what I do and provides the equipment to do so. Therefore, I will continue to pay for their services. But, if another place comes to town, I might just have to throw in the towel at Access.
Original Review Follows - I am one of those "loud grunting men" that the other reviewer complained about. Access is one of the few places in town that doesn't discriminate toward varying workout cultures. It's truly judgement free zone. I'll patiently wait my turn while you do your cross fit pull-ups in the power rack. Once you're done, I'll chalk up (they don't mind) and do my quarter ton rack pulls. If you don't like my style, you can go somewhere else. But, I don't mind if you're here; more power to you. No matter what you're doing, it's probably better than sitting at home on the couch.
Oh, and about the employees? Every single one of them knows me by name and greets me as I...
Read moreThough I do not have a membership here, I made a brief visit during a power outage. With the lights off and no discordant abomination of tormenting bellows radiating throughout the atmosphere, the experience was so exceptionally great that I was considering getting a membership here. Word of mouth spread about the situation, and crowds of people began rotating into the facility. Upon the peak of enjoyment from this great experience, the power was tragically returned. The lights were immediately shone upon the poor members who were enjoying the experience, and the treacherous melodies came back on and ruined it all. The peaceful dark room was once again turned into a blinding chamber of hell. It appears the only good thing they had going for them was not done of their own accord, but rather as soon as the opportunity arose for them to ruin the experience, soy took over and destroyed it. I’m now listening to “Turn Down for What” by DJ snake, one of the most grievous compositions that could’ve possibly been played. Edit: I thought it couldn’t get any worse, now they’re playing “It’s Tricky” by Run-DMC. Edit 2: I’ve spent a long time writing this review, yet I am still in disbelief at how poor the music choices are here. It would be far better to turn off the lights and play no music as everyone would simply listen to their own. How tragic is this, a free gift and opportunity was given to you, yet it was squandered as soon as the power was returned to your hand? Perhaps this will be a lesson for the future in how things may be handled here. Perhaps the lesson of, “less is more.” I now will build my own gym across the street, attracting the flock of hundreds of young visitors to enjoy serenity and peace without afflictions of torment emanating from the speakers, and bright...
Read moreGreat Hammer Strength equipment and very friendly desk staff, but the place has been filthy it seems for the last few months, and something is always broken. Additionally, there was an incredibly uncomfortable incident this morning in which a class instructor felt that our class had gone over time, and rather than sorting it with the other teacher professionally, just walked in multiple times to setup and lead her class in on top of ours, during our last 2 minutes of the circuit. It showed a sincere lack of respect for the clients and teacher. It seems like there needs to be an actual manager who not only schedules gym maintenance, but also coordinates better between teachers and encourages respect. I know a large chunk of members that only came to this gym because Sarah Dennis is a beast (in the most phenomenal way) but she's also very kind and respectful, and clients should feel that from all instructors that are affiliated in any way with the gym. We want to feel valued and welcome, no matter how cheap or expensive...
