long post warning..but worth it! Sorry it's late! I was in Brookings for my best friends wedding, in 09/14/20. Due to wild fires and covid, it had been pushed out once, already. We leave Idaho, at 0600am, 9/12/20, to arrive in Brookings Saturday afternoon, and hopefully avoid road closures. 3pm the bride, receives an email, EMAIL, from the booking/Photography/planner agency they were not traveling to Oregon, due to the wildfires and, " concern for their safety" (they confirmed the evening prior, we were still going to Oregon.) Needless to say, we had to try to contact anyone, to see if they can do her hair and makeup Monday for her wedding. #panicAndStress. Wellll..tears were she'd.

We had dinner 9/13/20 at this LOVELY restaurant!!! We were able to have it for our small party of 23! Yes, 23. And the staff were incredible! Beyond kind, funny and hospitable! The food, their special, was AMAZING! FRESH food, full of flavor and complementary of each other! I'd say a fancy restaurant! Not "too much" of anything! I wasn't sure which dressing to get on my salad, the owner, who was taking orders too, suggested her personal fav. AFTER ASKING what I normally get on my salad. She HEARD me. She gave her opinion, without being pushy. Their food was amazing! I tell her, many times how amazing everything is. I tell the owner we appreciate them for not cancelling dinner, and with a confused look and tone, she says, of course...but why would we cancel? It's her wedding ... Weeeellll I proceed to tell her the situation, this WONDERFUL LADY says "hold on"... She grabs her phone, and 2 min later is calling my best friend over to tell her, she has a hair gal for her, to come do her hair, tomorrow! Word of mouth y'all. And her friend, licensed cosmetologist, saves the day, does the bride's hair, for her wedding! This was beyond appreciated, on so many levels and by so many people! This lady, small business owner, has catered weddings prior, and just overall human. Totally understood our situation, or deal and stress and helped save the day! Soooo, long story comes to an end, thanks for reading it all. But this restaurant, had great service, staff, food, and helped us out of towner's, take care of my best friend, for her wedding to be everything she wanted it to be! P.s the wedding on the beach was beautiful, and the smoke didn't detour us from a great time, great pictures and a beautiful beach wedding! I will be returning and WILL be suggesting this wonderful restaurant! ❤️ Thank you! Thank you for your time! Sorry for the late...

Probably one of the worst restaurants I’ve been to. Firstly we ordered a Togo order so we can sit by the water and eat, well upon getting to our destination we noticed NO utensils !! They charged $1 extra on EACH item we ordered and then not a single fork or a single napkin! Pitiful! When we called to express our distress since we have two small children and we were all starving so it was extremely disappointing having to run around town looking for a fork no manager on site on a Friday night ? And no sympathy or offering of utensils or anything to amend this trouble. Secondly the zucchini noodles had ZERO flavor ! I mean so bad that I had to add some of the juices from my sad caprese salad I ordered ! Thirdly that caprese salad.... was charged something like $12 for 4 slices of tomato , not even an entire tomato which is just sad, then add the $1 they charge to make it Togo. This was terrible . Then we have been attempting to reach out to the owner to let him know how dissatisfied we were and to let him know how they need to give Togo order utensils especially if they want to charge extra... well he has been dodging our call ever since. Completely unprofessional. We own a restaurant and bar, sorry sir that is how you lose business ! I went reading the comments below as well to see how someone could enjoy this place well I saw on another one star review the manager seriously had the audacity to write back to a customer to be rude!!! Horrible horrible horrible customer service. Please if your reading this , go elsewhere! You will be thankful!

Update— still did not receive a call back to the message x2 I left .... the owner is pretending he knows what’s happening when in reality he was not there on a “busy” night . Firstly we walked in to place the order so It was not called in... secondly why isn’t a manager or owner there on such a busy night ? Thirdly we called three times in total to no avail. I do not appreciate the condescending tone in your “apology” . My family and I had a wonderful day and rest of our night . I’m frustrated at your poor management , oversee, and response. We just moved to town so that’s not what you...

We are a family of four. Ordered dinner from this restaurant to go. Was charged $1 extra per item, even the small house salad! This is not what upset me at all but then when we got to the park to sit outside to eat our dinner to find we were not given utensils OR napkins!! This led us to have to drive around in search of utensils so we can eat ! Meanwhile we have two small children that were hungry and were disappointed when we had to get back in the car to drive around looking for a fork. By the time we got around to our food it was cold! I don’t mind paying top dollar for good food at all but when we don’t even get utensils nor have any seasoning on our zucchini noodles I have something to say. We are moving to town very soon and I refuse to ever order from this restaurant again! Paying $14 plus $1 to put it in a container for a caprese salad that no exaggeration was 4 small slices of tomato and 4 slices of mozzarella , not even a whole tomato! Craziness! When we called to let them know we were not given utensils with our Togo order we were met with no sympathy and apparently no manager there on a Friday night which sounds unbelievable. I do not recommend ! With some salt and pepper my entree could have possibly been alright but nope 👎 do yourself a favor and go elsewhere !

Update 8/14/2020

The response from you is sad. I see what you were trying to do there but let me set the record straight... I came in to place the order and when I was there it was hardly busy considering it being a Friday evening . Secondly what’s a manager not doing there on such a busy evening? We called 3 separate times so please check yourself. It was me and my husband I called twice he called once . Left a message once because the second time I called I was given the same line as let me get your name and number and he will call you back ... which led nowhere . Your apology is obviously insincere as you were to point out right away how something may have been my own fault 😂 you do see that , your condescending tone? I notice just from your response you fabricate the truth so none of your responses on here are to be taken serious. You have lost...

Unfortunately it seemed we were unwelcome upon arrival at being seated . The male waiter served us. We were not told the specials, it took a long time to receive any beverages or water. Our waiter was A grimace faced scruffy beard, taller, medium, blonde haired, unfriendly, & less than pleased to serve Male. He gave us two slices Of bread and yummy balsamic/oil - but i noticed the female waitress gave our neighboring table Of two people get four Slices. The male waiter (only male Server there)seldom checked on us.. that same female waitress was delightful and noticed that we had no more bread and had been sitting there a while and she brought us three more slices. I ordered a blueberry martini and then a second because these are FANTASTIC. Super rich and supreme in flavor. I was impressed by these!! Saving grace. But pricey my 2nd one was not as full. darn it. My husband ordered a warm spinach salad which came out fairly quickly served by the Salad sous chef which was different but nice. Huge too. Plenty left over to take home. Its sooo much for 1 meal for 2 people. We took most of it home.We both had the beef stroganoff. I love Goat cheese. So, I opted for this meal. I do not eat beef anymore so I asked to substiture chicken which -seemed to personally irritate the waiter. I was very happy to say I received the chicken as moist and perfect, the goat cheese sauce ideally balanced and sublime. Loved our food. We were not offered a dessert menu even though we were tooo full anyway. We asked for to go boxes. The waiter pushed my husbands food into his tiny box and handed me the large to go box for me to do it myself. For $100 bill for TWO people I wish I had not tipped the waiter. I have thousands of reviews. This food is better than average but pricey. Atmosphere average. Get a reservation. No kids. Good cocktails. Will I goback? Should I?

My wife and I have been eating at the Trumpet ever since it opened and have never been disappointed with the super high quality food that they offer. One never knows what might be Special(s) of the Day or what varieties of homemade soups there will be. On this particular evening, we like to eat about 4:00 when it is not too crowded, we started off with the tomato bisque with goat cheese. I am always leery of goat cheese but this soup was fantastic! Then we proceeded to the escargot which is always one of our favorites, soak up the buttery sauce with their delicious bread. Something we had never tried before but was an excellent taste treat was the chili-lime prawns, recommended for a repeat another time. This was followed by the warm spinach salad which is always superb and last but not least was the fabulous homemade lasagna--another first time for us, also to be repeated! Very cheesy and yummy, attractively cooked and served in it own dish, very hot and bubbly... The full service bar pours excellent drinks and there is a very ample selection of beer. Also there is a quite extensive wine list. Needless to say, after this meal we opted out of dessert although there is a great dessert selection, tiramisu is always one of our favorites. The staff is always super friendly and accommodating, the chef loves to come to the tables and chat about the food and answer questions. We always try to go to Black Trumpet when out of town guests are visiting and our guests are always impressed with what they get!

We chose this restaurant based on the pictures and let me tell you, every dish was plated beautifully. It lived up to our expectations in looks. But it seemed to lack elsewhere. Service was awful. It was nearly empty when we arrived, yet getting our waiter to our table felt like a struggle every time. We ordered 2 appetizers, clams and prawns. Both were just ok. The prawns were advertised as a spicy lime but the flavor was more blackened cucumber. The clams were better and had good flavor but were just tiny. For dinner we each ordered an Alfredo and that was for sure the best part of our meal. That said, it lacked salt and we tried for over 20 min to get a servers attention but as the restaurant filled up, we quickly became an afterthought because we had our food. Not once did anyone check on our meal or waters and my husband had to go up and request salt. Ultimately the prices are good for that type of food but without good service and better quality controls, it’s just not there. Also, no gluten free pasta or bread options. Crazy in an upscale restaurant in 2023.
