From bad to worse! We usually go to the Shogun by Lawrenceville Suwanee, they were really good at first but now, it's a toss up if they have a good sushi chef. The serving size in the evening was small and I usually order the chirashi don and my wife orders the vegetable tempura. The rice was decent and the seasoning on the tempura was good and the dipping sauce as well. There was only one time that they actually served a decent sized portion and I bet the chef got fired for doing that cause I never saw him again. We decided to not go back there again because the food and the service was getting worse. Today we decided to go to the mall of Georgia location thinking that maybe it would be better and oh boy we were wrong.... They started out good as I ordered the spicy tuna hand roll and that was good and spicy! But things started to go down hill from there. We both ordered the same thing and with mine the chirashi don I ordered was actually smaller than the other location and this was dinner?! I asked no shrimp since I'm allergic and to sub it with something else and they subbed it with more imitation crab and tamago (egg) vs. more fish??? The rice was very minimal and the quality was mediocre at best. My wife ordered the vegetable tempura and it is supposed to come with 14 PC's on the menu and they gave her 8 and not only that it looked like it was a day old and re fried?!?! There was absolutely no seasoning on it, no salt or pepper just plain tempura batter and it was room temp! The sauce was extremely watered down which was disgusting. So we flag down the only waiter in the restaurant and told him that my wife only got 8 pieces and he says "no it only had eight" and we politely told him to get the menu and look we had to point out to him that it says 14. I don't even know if he knows how to read?!?! They finally bring out the rest of the pieces of tempura and guess what... Still under seasoned and no flavor! Well at least this one was warm! The fried rice looks like it was overcooked rice then fried cause it looked like a block that melded together! The waiter seemed like he didn't know what he was doing and had no attending skills at all. Overall I won't be coming back to this Shogun again or any Shogun for that matter!?! I'll try a different Japanese restaurant all together. We came here for...
Read moreWe decided to go to Shogun tonight for a change. I should’ve read the reviews across google and yelp before going.
Upon entering the restaurant with my service dog, I was asked for my service dog’s “identification card.” I tried to explain that he cannot legally ask me for any documentation and that he could only ask two questions per the ADA (1- Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? AND 2 - what work or task has the dog been trained to perform?). It is ILLEGAL to ask a person for any identification, which the employee was adamant about obtaining, as he asked multiple times. He informed me that other guests would ask, which is not the case. In fact, another diner followed me out after I finished eating, telling me how wrong and discriminatory they were being towards me. My dog is a trained medical alert dog and is, by federal law, allowed to be there without any identification. The employees need to be trained on the ADA. (ada.gov is a good starter to learn the law, or more specifically, https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-2010-requirements/). It seems to be a repeat problem, as pointed out in a previous post on google review by another service dog handler.
Service – it was four of us eating. Our food came out of the kitchen at staggered times. One meal came out. Ten minutes went by, and two more meals showed up. Finally, five or so minutes after that, the last one came out. Time management seems to be a problem.
Food quality – it wasn’t the best. The shrimp was overcooked in all of our meals. One person’s steak was chewy. The fried rice was bland. In fact, two of us poured one of the sauces on it to make it more flavorful. One person ordered yakisoba noodles. I swear they tasted like they came out of a ramen noodle pouch, but the flavor was reported to be okay.
I will not be back. I didn’t feel welcomed, nor was the food good. It was an experience that I care...
Read moreWe love Shogun. The food is always amazing with the hibachi chef; and, they are always super friendly. We usually go at lunch time and the prices are so much cheaper. We have a family of 4 and lunch is usually 50 to 60 dollars, including the 18% gratuity they automatically add to your check. Our dinner was more than double from lunch for the exact same thing. The server we had on this trip was not the best. She was very scattered in everything she did.we would ask for something and she would go to get it and then a few minutes later she would come back and not have it and walk to another family and they would ask for something and she would come back with theirs and I would have to ask again for what we needed. She would also lean and reach across our plates to grab dirty dishes, or drink cups to refill instead of letting us hand her our cups or asking if we wanted a refill. Our dirty dishes were placed in an area where she could reach without leaning over us. I don't know about you; but, I don't want someone's hands arms or body in my face or over my food while I'm eating. Since they automatically add the 18% gratuity, I had no way to not leave a tip or leave less of a tip for her with all these problems. We have eaten here many times and not had this kind of issue before. Plus, it was my daughters birthday and we were there to celebrate not to be irritated the entire meal. We were very...
