Okay, compliment sandwich time: the pizza is actually pretty good. it's an alright substitute for the late, great, expensive as hell Big Daddy's nearby, especially crust-wise.
The service is the bummer part. The first time, we got takeout and it went pretty smooth. The next time, opted for delivery. $1.50 delivery fee. Not bad. But it took well over an hour to deliver, despite living less than half a mile away. The driver did not want to get out of his car and come to the door when he got here, calling me to come meet him in the road. The pizza was stone cold. This was on a Monday night.
Lesson learned. Got take out the next time. Ordered over the phone, a pepperoni "light on the red sauce", made sure to insert the words "on the" to avoid a misunderstanding of "white sauce". Came to pick up, and was told I'd ordered a pizza with white sauce, and was I sure that wasn't what I ordered? The pizza did not even have white sauce on it though, it just didn't have any sauce. The cashier said sorry and offered a side cup of red sauce. It's not the end of the world, but a bit frustrating seeing as I went out of my way to avoid this situation. It's hard to express this next thought without sounding like an entitled butt cheek, but I have worked in many restaurants, pizza included, in Burlington, and the protocol is always a bit more effusive when an order gets messed up. Knock a couple dollars off, some credit toward a future order, can we comp a smaller item for you, etc. Yes, sometimes restaurants can over-do the customer service in situations like this, to the point where the reparation outdoes the original mistake. This was just glaringly the opposite.
I also want to add that the reason I did not place the order online, which would have left a paper trail of the order I was being questioned about, is that the Piesanos ordering page does not allow you to request light sauce. There is an option to double the sauce, but it's not clickable; greyed out. Same with cheese. Their online POS system also does not allow auto-fill for your saved credit cards. Minor but memorable inconvenience in today's world.
The prices are reasonable, which is refreshing in a city full of artisan type pizza places that that charge $28-$50+ per pizza. It's not fancy, and it doesn't try to be. It's good food. I'll keep trying, and I hope they stick...
Read moreI’ve lived in Burlington for many years and ordered from them more times than I can count from sheer necessity (very sensitive gluten allergy), but I have never wished more strongly I could have a better option. They have done everything from sending the wrong pizza to double charging me for a pizza (that I never got a refund for despite leaving a message, talking to someone on the phone “while the owner wasn’t in” and emailing), being able to place an order while they were unexpectedly closed, and tonight was just such a frustrating straw on the camels back. Not only do they charge $4.22 for being gluten free, but I paid $21 for a build your own pizza with pesto that had max 2 teaspoons of pesto and otherwise was basically the most expensive cracker I’ve ever bought. At this point I think I’d actually rather risk cross contamination than deal with their unprofessionalism and at best decent but horrifically overpriced food again.
The most frustrating part is that when that ordering while closed incident happened I got a very heartfelt apology call from a manager so I KNOW they have at least one person invested in doing this well, and that’s the only reason I’ve even lasted this long but one person is clearly not enough to hold this...
Read moreTerrible service. They don't have a full menu with descriptions. Have to wait fornthe screen to scroll through when looking at pi options. That's ok bc even with only 1 family in line ahead of you you will wait 20 min to get helped. Then when you over lay for your food you will wait a long time for it. Paid $10 for a steak and cheese even without the mushrooms peppers and onions and they use the fake American cheese from plastic wrap! My family felt I'll after eating the poor quality food. One of us ordered the $10 (for basically a grilled cheese) tomato and mozzarella panini. I will say they know how to make a calzone. If you aren't in a hurry or can call ahead, the calzone was perfectly made and large. Could have fed 3 of us. Oh and I asked for a veggie without the mushrooms or olives. Instead of charging me the cost of a veggie since it was one with FEWER vegetables, she charged me for each vegetable so I paid $2 extra for the calzone than I would ha e had I ordered all the vegetables! I made the mistake of adding a tip before getting my food and strongly regretted it between the long wait and...
