In all the years coming to tahoe, my fiance and I have wanted to try the Char-pit. We had heard good things about it, and its been here so long, we assumed it must be pretty good. We were not impressed. Parking is kinda limited, and you have to back out of the lot onto a busy street. The inside could use, not only updating, but cleaning. Its kinda dark and dingy. The menu board is old and had menu items replaced with paper stuck on over old items...it just didn't look very professional or clean. They also had a list at the register of handwritten items they they were out of....it was a lot of items, and all of the items I wanted were on that list such a bacon, onion rings, avocado, and several others. I did not find the menu to have many options that were appetizing once I was told of the items they were out of. I ended up ordering the mexican burger, which has a roasted Pablano pepper on it and BBQ sauce with american cheese. I personally am not a fan of american cheese, but they were out of the other cheese options. The girl at the counter was not very friendly..., and after we ordered I noticed she went back and was standing by the grill, maybe she was helping, I'm not sure, but she had no gloves or anything covering her hair. We went and sat outside, where we had to clean off a table as they all had crumbs of some sort on them. We waited a long time for our food, and no one else was in line ahead of us. My Burger was disappointing. WAY too much BBQ sauce, and the bun was falling apart...it was kind of flakey...maybe it was toasted...but it was not a good bun. The fries were thin cut fries, and nothing special. I enjoyed the Pablano pepper, but ended up removing the bun cuz it was so tore up..it was extremely messy and difficult to eat. As we were leaving we saw two adolescent bears, who had extracted a ton of garbage from their dumpster bin, as the bin was just left wide open. As we watched the bears, an employee came outside and shooed the bears off, but did not bother to clean up the trash scattered all over, or close the bins. My Fiance and I were disappointed by the overall experience, and most likely...
Read moreI live in Reno and had tried to support this place for years even though it is just mediocre. After the way we were treated by the employees and manager last visit I will never return with my kids or bring any friends ......as I did in the past. I thought the service was bad from time to time time but I am generally easy to please and prefer to just brush it off. Brought a friend here and we both have kids and so there were a lot of us. My friend has an intolerance to cheese. They accidentally put cheese on her burger - no big deal. When she told them they asked if they could just scrape it off and she said she was allergic and could they just get her a new one? They said sure and when she came back to get it they had lied and the burger still had clumps of cheese on it that they had tried to cover up with ketchup. She went back in and she told them she wanted a new patty and they told her to calm down among other rude things and coached her on how she should be more clear when she orders (she had been very clear and the person at the computer put it in correctly). They accidentally put a sweet BBQ sauce all over my food ( I asked them to hold the sauce) so I still had not received my food which I wasn't upset about nor had I complained about but when the manager noticed his error he became flustered and took it out on us telling us to calm down in a weird way with a weird voice when we were not mad. I was shocked at how they were behaving and told him how surprised I was and how I had always loved this place. He kept saying "go ahead call the manager, I dare you, call him right now" making me think he was the manager. It was bizarre. My friend is a really patient lady who ironically works in a SPED department with people that have behavioral issues (me too we worked together) and we have seen a lot of behaviors but this almost tops the list. WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?!? It was so inappropriate I cannot justify coming back here ever again. I went from going out of my way to try and support this place to leaving them a one star review. My kids started crying and...
Read moreThis was a first for me. I have never been yelled at by a cook in front of an entire restaurant before. This guy said he didn’t believe that my order was messed up because he “knew what he cooked!” And why should he trust me.
I ordered take out for kids and colleagues, when I picked up the order, I asked “are you sure there are 6 burgers?” I was assisted there were. I got back to work, plated the meal, had an extra French fry and was short 2 burgers. Clearly I got one wrong bag. I immediately called and they said to come back and pick up the two missing burgers. I asked if I should bring the extra fries and was told no. I told my boss I’d be late and went back.
When I got there I was bombarded with and angry cook who didn’t believe me. He asked to see the food but I had served it to the hungry kids. I am a local. I work at a local child care organization and I had my staff shirt on, I wouldn’t have lied. I even asked him to call theM organization and ask to vouch for what we got.
He kept shouting at me to prove it. What kind of customer service is this!? So I asked my colleague to send me photos of what was delivered. He probably cooked the right thing. The mistake was clearly the poor girl who gave me the wrong bag.
I wasn’t lying and I didn’t deserved to be yelled at in front of everyone. They forgot my burgers and treated me like I was a criminal. I was ok with the mistake even if it meant driving back and being late for work. This courtesy was treated with anger and unprofessionalism. It was horrible.
I’m a local and I loved these burgers. I won’t go back. Now, cu colleagues want to boycott the place too. We are open during COVID 19 trying to provide child care to kids of essential workers. It is horrible that a local business would treat one of us like this. Before you go to the Char Pitt, know what you...
