Did the ownership or chef change in 2024? This isn’t a review that I thought I’d write about Seapal Cove, and I was also wondering why all of a sudden the more current reviews were saying that the food wasn’t so great. After my meal today I can see why and I agree. I initially was overdue to write a 5 star rave review. I started coming here about 2 1/2 years ago and it was mind blowingly good. The fish and chips were better than those I’d had in London and the prawns were equally amazing. The batter was light, fresh, crisp and full of flavor. The burger was delicious and the fries were good as well. It was so good my husband and I came for dinner every night for three nights in a row. We ordered all 3 items every night.
Tonight we were extremely disappointed. We got our above mentioned usual favorites (minus the burger) and every single item was a flop. The batter for the fish and prawns tasted completely different, a little burnt, and had zero flavor. Even the color was darker than we remember. The fries were hard and tasted old as if they were fried twice to warm them up from being old. I had one and a half fry. My last two pieces of prawn I scraped off the batter to just eat the shrimp. I don’t enjoy writing less than great reviews but this is an honest one and stems from being disappointed from remembering how amazing the food was to what we had today. I told so many people to come here, and I now have to tell them never mind, it has changed.
It’s clear the recipes and/or techniques have changed. Please go back to the 2023 and prior ways and then I’ll come back but sadly the calories are no longer...
Read moreIf you're looking for delicious seafood with stunning views of the ocean, look no further than Sea Pal Cove in Fort Bragg, CA. This quaint restaurant offers some of the freshest seafood I've ever tasted, and the outdoor deck seating allows you to enjoy your meal while taking in the beautiful coastal scenery.
The fish and chips here are a must-try. The fish is cooked to perfection, with a light and crispy batter that perfectly complements the flaky, tender meat. And the chips - oh, the chips! - are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, just the way they should be. It's a simple dish done exceptionally well, and it's definitely worth the visit.
Another standout dish is the clam chowder, which is loaded with large, juicy pieces of clam. It's creamy, flavorful, and just the right consistency - not too thick, not too thin. Add in some oyster crackers and a dash of hot sauce, and you've got a bowl of chowder that's out of this world.
But perhaps the best part of Sea Pal Cove is the views. The outdoor deck seating overlooks the ocean, giving you a front-row seat to some of the most beautiful scenery in Fort Bragg. It's the perfect spot to relax and unwind while enjoying a delicious meal.
The only reason I'm not giving Sea Pal Cove a perfect five stars is because the service can be a bit slow at times, especially during peak hours. But trust me - the food and views are worth the wait. Overall, Sea Pal Cove is a fantastic restaurant that's definitely worth a visit if you're...
Read more4 stars on Atmosphere might not be fair, it was windy, cold, and there was nowhere warm to sit except our auto. Short menu offerings. It took a bit to get our food, which IMHO is often a good sign. If the place is busy, there is demand, because the food is good and worth waiting for. The burgers were decent. The fish and chips not greasy, and the fries nice, hot and salty enough. Didn't try their chowder. My guess is, on a sunny day vs. near sunset, the place is a delight. Plenty of well behaved and happy doggies within sight. One thing worth saying, this town goes to sleep early. Sea Pal was one of the only places open much after 7, and we appreciated it thoroughly. Travelling through, it can be hard to figure out where to go and where not to. One restaurant, upstairs with a view, was a bit of a sh!t show r.e. staffing, and we walked out... ended up at Sea Pal. So glad we did. I'd have to call this take out, as we took it to the parking lot, and sat in our RV. Not sure there is ANY indoor seating though there is a 'barge' about 50 feet from the canopied order/pickup window. It was fairly crowded, and we thought there would be more wind there. Unfortunate that the sunset experience doesn't include a view other than a hillside. But, a nice affordable fish & chips joint would be a high priced...
