Best food & friendliest waitstaff South of the Canal Worth the stop on the way to the Delaware shore. Save yourself the headache of Dover traffic & exit for food AFTER Dover this summer. Take exit 97 if your headed South on DE-1. Left at the light will takes you South on DuPont Hwy. Then, just past the Super Walmart, there is a cluster of restaurants & in that cluster there is a Bob Evans & IF you are Lucky in that Bob Evans there is a waitress named Lynne. I'd tell you to ask for her, but unless your super early she's probably already been requested multiple times. She served me & my family for over 10 years at one of the locations in North Delaware. Back then my business took me ALL over the state & so i often went a bit out of my way for coffee breaks at that Bob Evans. But i have some degenerative medical conditions & my declining health made it difficult to get out much for coffee breaks or Sunday breakfast. Then about 11 years ago, i had a chance to stop in & i was disappointed not to see Lynne working breakfast . So i asked about her to the host who called over the manager who told my sadly: that she was "sorry, but we 'lost' Lynne a couple years ago" I was stunned & when i was able to speak i said "Oh, we lost a good person, i considered her a friend." The manager huffed & replied to me "you lost a friend? i lost a good waitress!" For YEARS i thought about how cold that seemed. THEN a few years back, while looking for a caffeine fix before an appointment with a new Doctor, i spotted this Bob Evans in Camden. I came in that day as the Lunch rush was ending. They were busy, but the host prepared to seat me right away. She spied my walker & considerately asked if i had a seating preference? "thanks, any table is fine, just give me a good server" i said in a joking tone. "She laughed & said coming right up." But spying the time she paused & then asked across the counter to someone who's back was to us "oh, you're going off? right?" The waitress responded that it was "fine she could take another guest" & as she turned around & greeted me with smiles & recognition i was so tickled... My food was great that day, and it is great every month when i stop before or after the Doctor. I am SO happy & relieved that Bear, DE had in fact lost a great waitress, but the rest of us, happy patrons that she has been serving so well for decades, we, as it turns out had only misplaced her. Everyone at the Camden, DE Bob Evans is great. The hosts are friendly & patient, the cooks are accommodating with dietary restrictions & requests and the managers(i think the one i usually see there is Chris) they are always checking to be sure the customers are happy. ^Gluten free options ^55+ Senior menu ^Carry out...
Read moreI'm done with this location. For several years, I ordered the, very generous size, three course pot roast dinner, always take-out. However, in fall I ordered it, not only did I not get my dessert (a chocolate sundae), I literally got only five bites of pot roast. I called thinking clearly they had a new worker that made a mistake. However, I was told their portion size was cut down. It had to cut about 75% and that was shortly after a $2 increase in price. I was told I could come back for the Sundae at a later time. I was busy the next week or two, so I couldn't get back and then it slipped my mind. I since visited another location and the portion size was normal; very adequate. I decided to try Camden again, explained they forgot my Sundae. After a brief hold, they said ok, they would include it. However, when I left to pick up my order there was an accident and I had to cancel the order. I went back today. I explained the scenario again. Someone behind the counter remembered me having to cancel the order. The guy taking my order now, seemed nice, but when I asked if there was the extra sundae, he said no, he didn't see any notes in the back. Is that my fault? Was I suppose to go there and make sure someone wrote it down? Do they really think that I would just say this to get an extra sundae? Really! So, initially they forgot to give me the dessert, then, the guy doesn't even tell me they aren't giving it to me until I double check, then he says because someone else screwed up and didn't ask if they weren't giving me the sundae. I know it's only worth $1-2, but that just cost them my business. Oh, and when I asked if the manager was there, he said, we're all managers. LOL, maybe that's the problem. Who's managing who, if everyone is a manager? Check your bag if you...
Read moreFirst time coming to this place in years. Walked in and was seated immediately. While waiting to be served we got to witness 2 waitresses screaming at the top of their lungs at eachother about how the one server could not handle a "5 top & a two top" at the same time. The bickering continued for 15 minutes while management did absolutely nothing to defuse the situation. We also witnessed a third waitress enjoy antagonizing the two that were arguing and continuously adding fuel to the fire. Poor Keith our server was completely embarrassed and stated "welcome to my life". This is apparently a common occurrence. We watched as angry waitresses paced back and forth while Keith ran about and handled the restaurant in a professional manner. To watch management putz around allowing the employees run the store was embarrassing. Someone should put keith in charge since he is the only professional person in the building and passionate about what he does. The food was inedible when it arrived but we could see that saying anything would not resolve it since we witnessed how the staff could behave and management did not care. Never again. We just hope Keith got the tip that he rightfully earned from us and hopefully sees what a valuable employee he is. Why he stays baffled us upon witnessing the circus of chaos surrounding him with no boundaries...
