Recently, my wife and I decided to dine out at Olga's Kitchen in Canton. The once uniquely mall-oriented chain has adopted a contemporary decorum for this location, combining the restaurant's casual, comfortable ambiance with a modern, chic twist.
Their menu boasted a concoction of exciting dishes such as Greek Steak, Greek Chicken Fajitas, and Detroit Wings, something Olga's fans would definitely find enticing.
Intrigued, but we craved familiarity, and settled for a basket of Snackers with Swiss Almond cheese, Cream of Broccoli Soup, and Mediterranean Chicken Olga at my end. My wife chose to pair her snackers and soup with a Felafel Olga.
As expected, the Snackers were superb, and the soup— the reason we frequent Olga's—didn't disappoint. It reminded us why the previous versions of this establishment were a comforting piece of our dining-out roster.
However, venture beyond these appetizers into the main course, and the experience started to lose its charm. My Mediterranean Chicken Olga, despite its appealing presentation, was an endeavour in blandness. The chicken lacked any discernible seasoning—neither the warmth of basil nor the punch of garlic, and not even the bare essentials of salt and pepper. The pickles had to carry the burden of offering sustained flavor to the sandwich, which they did, bravely.
Similarly, my wife's Falafel Olga was dry and nearly devoid of any tantalizing flavors. Ironically, arabic spices' symphony, which should have been a prominent polyphony in the Falafel Olga, was instead a single tone of flatness.
What also fell flat was the service. Our waitress didn't manifest that classic hospitality we associate with Olga's. Not to mention, her attention was irregular at best. This was one ‘unexpected’ we could certainly do without.
To wrap up, Olga's Canton, may wear a new coat of paint (literally), they can certainly polish their mains and service quality. Until then, we will hold on to our nostalgia with Olga's and hope that our next visit features a more melodious tune.
Nonetheless, we'll certainly be back for the soup and the snackers. You can...

Read moreIve been to different locations and never had such slow service. The hostess seated me and my guest at a dirty table after we had to wait to watch her clean a different one. The table was we got seated at was covered in crumbs, had a puddle of water on it and the table wobbled terribly.
Every time the waitress came to the table she was gone very quickly before we could even ask for refills or anything else. This would have made sense if they were short staffed, but we saw a good number of employees walking around, but not much being taken care of. The tables surrounding us were left unbussed for a long time. This couldve been a shift change thing, but it was odd that someone would come and grab one or two things off dirty tables at a time.
I had to wait a long time for a water, and we got the endless soup/salad/snackers, but at every other location Ive been to, they bring those three items at the same time for the first round. We were brought only our salads, which I thought used to include tomatoes but was mostly just a bowl of lettuce with onions and one shredded up olive. Then we had to wait much longer for our snackers and our soup came last. We weren't given knives in the silverware rolls and had to ask for them.
The food was of typical quality I expect of Olgas but the service was slow and our table itself was not great. The food wasnt hot, it was warm but warm like it had been sitting for a while, especially my mac and cheese...
