Mediocre service for the “Quality of restaurant “ that is supposed to be . It is a loud atmosphere to be considered High end dining. Drinks took about 10-15mins to arrive at the table. Food was order around 8: 07 pm or so. Food took arrive to our table at 9:02 pm . We asked our server if he could check on our food , but he seemed to be bothered when we asked him. For food we order crab cakes and a classic cesar to star. Crab cakes were okay a bit dry and greasy. Salad was blend . Croutons were saggy , lettuce was bitter and dressing was blend no taste. For main course we order a chicken bbq, salmon , a 75$ steak , mashed potatoes and lobster Mac and cheese.
Steak worst of all. It was supposed to be 16 oz (they charge by the oz) but it was mostly Fat. Rip off. On top it was cold!
The mashed potatoes had no flavor and Mac and cheese was salty.
Chicken and salmon were actually good.
When food arrive all plates were hot , but food was just warm. We mentioned our concerns to a person that check in with us at the table (assuming it was the manager). He offered to change the steak, but we did not wanted to wait another hour for our food. As a previous experienced server in a high end restaurant, I would of remove at least the salad and or apps to compensate for the wait time.
I did not wanted to complain so we try to let it go.
To “compensate “They brought Prosecco to our table that nobody drank because it was not good either and 1 person was not drinking alcohol. We were a party of four and no where in the menu it mentioned about gratuity being included. However at the end the server included himself a 20% gratuity. On the original bill gratuity was not included. I was still going to leave 20% of gratuity , (which I did) thinking that there was no gratuity included. It was until my friend decline gratuity on the card because she was going to leave cash that he mentioned that he had already included himself gratuity with out our consent.
Overall it was a horrible experience for what the bill was. I don’t mind the price , but when you get such a horrible experience it feels...
Read moreMy wife and came here for our last night in Puerto Rico for our anniversary. I will leave the positives and negatives of our experience. Please consider that this hotel is a taken-over by Fairmont for the El San Juan Hotel (see pictures), a hotel that has been around for some time and an original for San Juan, I would imagine. I could not book a reservation without going through OpenTable. On making the reservation, I indicated it was an anniversary celebration. We were seated nearby a table of loud and screaming kids, when there was another side of the restaurant that would have been more appropriate for our evening, I guess the concierge did not see our reason for dining. Mind you, the two ladies were not dressed for their position: one was wearing a ripped jean jacket and the other with high cut dress reminiscent of a lady for hire.
The server did not introduce himself with his name, did not inform us what wasn’t available on the menu (escargot, and bone marrow butter). Ordered two Ceaser salads and appetizers, forgot my salad. Wagyu tartare was excellent (generous portion) as was the cocktail shrimp (2 pieces).
After 20 minutes of screaming by the kids, I asked to be moved, which they accommodated. Dinner: ordered 16 oz. picahana (medium rare, $50) with truffle mushroom crust, crab legs ($120), habanero chimichuri, truffle butter, broccolini, truffle fries, and Smoked Monkey cocktail.
Total bill (restaurant added the tip) was $402. Here is my evaluation: service 2/5 stars, food 3.5/5, ambiance 2/5 (loud club music), attention to detail 3/5, price compared to quality 3.5/5 (the pichana steak was dry which is unusual for this cut of meat).
The restaurant doesn’t match the quality of the rest of the hotel. The staff are there for a check and not so much to provide a waiting service - which is a craft and dedication in itself. The level of service was akin to being served at a Denny’s.
This restaurant has so...
Read moreThis was the singular most underwhelming meal I have ever experienced. We are in Puerto Rico for our first wedding anniversary….noted this on our “open table” reservation, with no actual recognition of this at the restaurant. Spent $290 on this meal (which we totally expected). What we didn’t expect was a complete lack of attention to detail. All tables around us had bread and.a bowl of something. Now, I don’t know what the something was, but neither was I given the opportunity to know what the something was. We each ordered a Caesar salad…neither of which came dressed. Had to ask for the dressing. My wife ordered a filet medium. I ordered a ribeye medium. We opted to share a salt crusted baked potato. The filet arrived lukewarm and more on the raw side. The ribeye was cooked perfectly, but was hammered with thyme. There was not one ounce of salt crust on the “salt crusted” potato, and it had the taste and mouth feel of a baked potato that sat on a Golden Corral buffet line loosely wrapped in aluminum foil. The restaurant was kind enough to automatically include a 20% tip for the server had offered me NONE of the accoutrements mentioned previously, and then present me with another opportunity for an additional 15 to 25 percent tip in case I missed that they had already included the 20 percent. To be fair, I didn’t give the server the opportunity to correct any of the things I’m complaining about, but I would have sent the whole meal back in order to do this, and I just didn’t have the head space for it. I would have expected this to be right the FIRST time for this caliber of restaurant. At this point, I have put more effort into this review than did the restaurant into my...
