Let me start off by saying that I visited this establishment about 10 years ago and had not been back because of the horrible service I received with my family. I believe however that everyone deserves a second chance so last night my husband and I decided to go back for dinner. We want to support as many local business as possible.
The experience the second time was just as bad as the first. Nothing has changed. First of all this establishment is listed as a restaurant not a nightclub. You wouldn’t know this because of the blaring speaker playing throughout the restaurant. The only ones enjoying the music are the wait staff and what I assumed was the manager/ owner. If your trying to have a conversation or romantic dinner forget about it. Secondly, their is a sign out front that advertises happy hour all day. So I ask what does the happy hour menu consist of and the waitress responds it’s only 2 classes of beer, a vodka and whiskey. No wine, yet they have a bottle on each table that I believe was listed as $27 c/u which I am assuming means cada uno ? Translated to each one, leading me to ask myself is that price per bottle or glass? I looked up the bottle because it looked like the cheap ones you can buy at Walmart and sure enough it was $11.87 per bottle.
Next let’s talk about the menu. After being seated for a bit we realized there was a scan QR code for the menu and it opened to a Facebook page? I don’t have Facebook. I assume someone got a glimpse of my frustration and the waitress came over with a super cheap menu that my husband and I had to share. There were no prices on the cocktails and the food was pretty high priced for this style of restaurant. My husband and I decided to order a salad and spit a meal so that the 8pm meal would not be so heavy. After a 40 minute wait I decided to ask the waitress how much longer? Because the restaurant was by no means packed . She said it would still be awhile but if I wanted she could bring my salad ahead. I assumed that this would be something she would have clarified earlier. When I told her yes, to bring the salad she came back to say the fried cheese was not ready so she could bring it after. So it took over an hour for fried cheese that could have been served first, a salad which should have followed and a plate of rice and chicken in sauce over an hour to be cooked and served?
Plato’s I know this is island time but sorry to report you disappointed a second time. On my next visit to my island, I will continue to take my business elsewhere. The manager/ owner needs to be in the back either helping the cook because I assume there is only one and/or move a few of the teenage wait staff and terrible host to help in order to speed the process.
Just know that my husband did complain to the check out girl and all she could say was how sorry she was. So, to the many tourist that stay in this area don’t even bother with Plato’s. Not worth the wait or...
Read moreExcellent restaurant. The service was above and beyond. One from our party asked for black tea, they didnt have any, but offered to go check next door. The shop next door did, so they came back and reported this, and offered to get one for us and bring it over. The food was fantastic. If nothing else, the Tempura Dorado is hands down the best mahi mahi I've ever had. Heck, best fish I've ever tasted. The flavors infused in the meat of the fish, preserving the juices, and then a light fluffy tempura crust...out of this world! Not to mention the sauce was pretty tasty, though, I could and did eat the tuna without dipping. The Queso Frito del Pais was definitely a favorite as well. The cheese had the texture of very firm fried tofu, and consistency of...well, cheese, dense thick and slightly crumbly cheese. It was subtle and a delight on it's own, but then you add in the coconut guava sauce and it becomes a whole other experience. The smooth sweetness paired with the cheese...to be compared to high end cheese and wine pairings. And I would still pick this any day of the week. The Filet Minion was delicious, juicy, and the sauce was a surprising sweetness that complimented the red meat so well. The risotto was smooth and savory, a wonderful contrast to the sweet sauce and juicy meat. Cassava Mofongo was delicious. Very similar to mashed potatoes, but with some different levels of dissected root, from smooth and soft, to chewy and some pieces of cassava cooked but still in original form. There were slight hints of cassava flavors but otherwise very much like mashed potatos. Pechuga de pollo a la parrilla en salsa criolla con arrow guisado: The chicken was flavorful and moist. I have never had rice and beans that tasted so good! It could 100% be a stand alone meal at my house anyday! So good! We got a Coconut Sangria and sampled the Guava Sangria. The Guava was a perfect example of a tropical sangria. So delicious and refreshing. Now...the Coconut Sangria was like no sangria I've ever had. This was closer to a legit mixed drink. I say mixed drink instead of cocktail because it was so strong. Definitely a good way to kick off the night! We came back another night with friends and only ate a salad and the same appetizers we had before. They were thinner cuts and the juiciness reflected as such. It still had the flavor just not the soft juicy eyes rolling back in your head feelings. Our friends got one and theirs were thick, thankfully. Our salad was good, but a possible suspect of some bubble gut received that evening. :( They had the Filete de Chillo en salsa de limon y alcapparras. She liked it, and said that she would order it again. He ordered the Churrasco a la Parrilla con chimichurri de mangos. It was ordered as medium rare but shouldn't have been. Other than that it was fantastic. The chimichurri was incredible and fresh, and the tuber mashed was...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at Platos, or rather, attempting to dine at Platos. A local restaurant that fell drastically short of expectations. My party and I arrived at 9:15 PM, with ample time before the advertised closing hour of 10:00 PM. To our dismay, we were informed that the kitchen had already closed despite the remaining operational hours. This was semi-understandable as the place was near empty on a prime Sunday night, I can only wonder why 🧐🤐🙄.
The situation was exacerbated by the unprofessional conduct of the waiter, Hispanic Fabio, who didnt even know his own restaurants close time however seemed delighted to advise us of the kitchens close time (9:15pm). His demeanor was dismissive and curt, as he turned us away without any consideration or attempt to offer alternative options. This level of service not only disregards basic hospitality standards but also leaves a lasting negative impression on patrons.
Given that Platos failed to honor its published closing time and demonstrated a concerning lack of courtesy, I can only rate this experience as a dismal 1 out of 5 stars. This restaurant clearly needs to reassess its service protocols and training to meet even the most minimal standards of customer satisfaction, as well as the restaurants' lack of cleanliness being a concern.🤢🤮
Ended up going to "Metropol" Restaurant down the street, which also closes at 10:00pm. They had no issue at all with seating me and taking my order at 9:25pm sharp. It was a great experience. I can only assume the quality of Metropol being exponentially better than what I would have experienced at Platos, I guess we will never...
