I always visited this restaurant for its seafood sampler and fried Oreos. If I order more than that, then prepare your budget. This place needs to improve in many aspects.
Communication: I came in with my friends from Ohio who were told they had Red Snapper. Around 40 minutes later after we ordered food and drinks, they say they don't have snapper (the reason we came in). Then my friends had to order what they didn't want to eat and, to top it off, the meat didn't came the way we want to. This is my advise, the kitchen must update their inventory and be communicative with the rest of the staff, then you would avoid having upset customers who end up paying over $30 for a plate he didn't eat. So, you can imagine the bill...
Overpriced: this place charges for everything, extra bread, extra sauces, extra everything you would think it won't be charged, yes it will. And now even my fried Oreos come with less ice cream than before. Over $8 for a dessert with more Oreos than ice cream.
Teamwork: communication is very related to teamwork. I found myself asking for a sauce to another server and I saw myself wondering why I had to wait almost 10 minutes and see my server tell me she's gonna bring the sauce soon. The other server passed by us many more times and went to the kitchen, come on, if you have time and my food is getting cold, just help your coworker. This is why bad service is critical when the team don't help each other. And this includes the super rude owner. Walking gracefully around the restaurant and being nice to other customers while he never apologized for the bad service we got. Not even a hi or how are you. The service starts with you, then it shows to the rest of your team.
So, honestly, I liked this place, but after all this situations, and the service kept getting worst, I will just give up and stop bringing people to this place. 2 drinks + shared sampler + dessert + small soups = over $60. 5 plates, 5 drinks and 2 or 3 appetizers = over...
Read moreThe struggle was real. But to call it a struggle would be an understatement. This dining experience felt like death by attrition. My wife and I were sat at a table and waited for 20 minutes for a server to greet us. A dog sitting next to us was offered water before anyone even noticed us. Once the server came, we put in our entire order, drinks and food. We waited another 20 minutes. Nothing. The server went back to the bar and we eventually received our first drink roughly 45 minutes into being there. Honestly, I should have closed the check then. The server came back to us, and asked for our order again because somehow that information was fumbled on the way to the kitchen line. Time passes, and our server comes to us and tells my wife and I that they were out of certain ingredients. So we both put two new orders. 1.5 hours later our meal is finally served and they got my wife’s order wrong. Long story short it took 2 hours to get food. I watched several people walk in, sit down , and eventually leave. Our server was extremely sweet and nice , but it’s hard to look past a two hour wait for food and 45 minutes for a simple drink. I didn’t argue the bill. The manager here is losing this establish some serious money. It was evident that he couldn’t handle his job responsibilities. I’ve never seen a place ran so poorly and I’ve worked in food industry before. His servers had little knowledge on what food they were out of, he debated with a table after they asked him several times for a check. I was embarrassed for the man. There’s no way he can call himself a manger because that was the last thing he was doing. Walk down the street and go to any other...
Read moreI will preface this by saying the restaurant isn’t bad in and of itself if you have no allergies to any type of food. I went to this restaurant during a recent stay in San Juan. It’s the perfect location, right across the street from the beach, very centric. If you’re staying in nearby hotels, it’s just a walk away. Price wise, the food is a great deal. The restaurant has a nice feel. The drinks are really great and well done. The waitress who served me was really sweet too and very attentive. The only reason I am giving a 3 and not 5 stars is this: I told my waitress clearly that I did not want any meat that is pork. I’m not Puerto Rican, I am Hispanic, but I’ve never had PR food before, so I don’t know their dishes. While she did save me from ordering a side dish that had bacon and ham, she had told me the carne frita they serve is red meat, and at the time, I did not realize this, but it’s actually fried pork. Not long after, my pork allergy flared up. It was an extremely unpleasant experience for me. I was very, very sick. I’m just grateful to be alive at this point and that it wasn’t worse. My advice to the restaurant: please respect your customers’ wishes. If someone comes in and says they can’t eat certain foods, please do your best to accommodate. It’s okay if your waiters don’t know what kind of meat is used, but don’t assume your customers know. It’s okay to not know. Go check with the kitchen, ask questions, find out for your customer. They’re trusting you to make good food they can enjoy. You never know who has an allergy and is making the request for that reason. This is the only reason I can’t...
