If you're deciding between this place and M&J's, go with this place. It's incomparably better. For the same price, you get a wider selection and, in my opinion, better tasting food. For the dishes that overlap like mac and cheese, Green Tomato seems to use real cheese while M&J covers noodle with a very thin cheese sauce.
On top of the value, the staff were very attentive to not just us, but other customers. There was this super old guy that came in and seemed to be having trouble moving around the buffet; one (of the two) waitress ended up helping him fix his plate. Mad respect. With all that said, I did come in during a slow period, between 4-5pm, and there were only like 8 people between 4 tables (plus some people who got plates to-go) so they were well staffed for the customer flow.
I'd note that most of the food on the buffet remained on the buffet during my visit so it's a bit unclear how long ago the oldest item was cooked, but food that's supposed to be hot was hot, food that's supposed to be cold was cold, and nothing seemed dried out. In fact, the rolls are some of the softest I've had from a buffet despite...
Read moreI was waiting at the spectrum store two doors down for 1+ hour and still had longer to wait with my daughter. I really needed a drink of water. The hostess at this restaurant told me they had no bottled water but I could buy a glass for $1.00 which I agreed to do. I did not have cash or change in my wallet and they wouldn't let me use a debit card. I was not allowed to have even a drink of water (because a cup costs them .70 cents)! I think humanity and good will is an important part of business. 2 hours later I am still at the spectrum store. The Chinese restaurant at the end of strip center earlier graciously gave me a bottle of water (as it costs them more for a charge on a card than they would earn on a small purchase). I was able to get change from my car to pay for it 15 minutes later and also tip the generous woman who offered a stranger (and potential customer) a drink of water for free. I've eaten at both establishments numerous times over the years. Im certain you know which establishment will have my continued business and which one will no longer be...
Read moreOkay, this review is going to be weird. I can barely believe it myself. I'm in such disbelief I'm literally writing this review as I'm sitting here.
The positives; everyone was super nice and friendly. Waitress was on the ball and kept the table cleaned and drinks filled. The fried green tomatoes were the best thing they have by far. I would say they're a 5 out of 10. Decent flavor, but very hard. The tomatoes themselves were the perfect green and texture. The country fried steak was pretty decent, not great but I've had way worse. Okra was good. Rolls decent.
Now... the unbelievable part. This restaurant has to have "boiled water" seasoning. The macaroni and cheese tasted like boiled water. The cheese on top? Boiled water. I don't even know how that's possible. The cheesey rice casserole? Boiled water. Squash... boiled water that was used to boil squash. The deviled eggs? "No way!" you say... yes. Way. Boiled water. How do you remove the egg taste from eggs? Don't even get me started on the collards. If boiled water is your taste, this...
