Been a loyal Schat’s Bakery customer for over 30 years at the Bishop location. When I saw this establishment on Yelp, I was excited to have lunch there. I walked in and went to place an order at the counter. The young lady behind the register was occupied and trying to do something with the register. I patiently waited for several minutes when she said, Alright, are you ready to order? Not in a friendly way at all. She wasn’t happy and was rather short . I ordered a tri tip sandwich with bbq sauce on the side. Then she presented me with the card reader and it asked if I wanted to leave a tip. I haven’t been served yet. She wasn’t friendly, never smiled, was kindof short with me. I didn’t feel appreciated at all , yet I left a 10% tip. I could tell she expected more. FOR WHAT?? Taking my order? Then I decided to have get a coffee. I had to go in another line with different unfriendly, not helpful young lady. I ordered an “endless” cup of coffee for $3.35 . She poured me a little over half a cup. I asked , is the cream on the table? She said yes. I went to my table, and there was no cream. There wasn’t any cream on any tables. So, I went back up to the register and had to wait for 2 other customers holding a half cup of coffee to ask for cream. She got a box of cream from the refrigerator. All the corners were open. She stuck her bare fingers into the top of the cream box to open the box further. It was obvious she had absolutely no clue what she was doing . Rather than get upset, I just dealt with it. I went back to the table. Although the coffee wasn’t very warm at this point, it was quite good. It was good coffee. I drank it in no time. My food came. It was delicious. A different young lady brought the food, said nothing and disappeared. I wanted more coffee but no one came by to offer me more and there was a line at the register, so I didn’t get a refill on my bottomless cup of coffee until I finished my sandwich and I went to the register after the people in line left. I asked for a 20 oz togo cup. The young lady had to check with the manager who told her it was ok this time but they wouldn’t do it again. Since I don’t live in the area, i said that’s fine. Again with the bare fingers in the top of the cream box , into my togo cup, then the coffee. Usually, I put the coffee in first, then the cream. Anyway, the food was good. The employees ALL could use some training in how to be nice, and helpful, and to smile. Soon these GenZ’rs will be replaced by happy robots that don’t have attitudes or expect tips for...
Read moreI was so saddened after my recent visit to Shotz. Had not been there in 4 years. Yesterday, I was so excited to get some pastries and tasty sandwiches. I had to wait in line (not because of a long line), but because there were numerous errors in food orders being brought to patrons, so a huge discussions ensued for about 5 mins between the cashier, cooks and server. Then again when it was my turn. Waited for 12 mins in line with one person ahead of me. I ordered 4 sandwiches, and made sure I saw her write down the order. when order came up, I took out to the car only to discover there were only 3 sandwiches. So I returned to collect the 4th one, only to discover it was never ordered. The server just looked at me and said "there are only 3 sandwiches" (no kidding), and I replied by saying, yes, that is why I am here to get the 4th one! She explained that there was no 4th coming. I reiterated I ordered 4 sandwiches and watched her write it down. But she said only 3 were ordered. And we had to get home. So I said, so what about the 4th sandwich? And as she looked over to cashier she said "you have to go talk to her" and looked down continuing to focus on her task. There were 4 people in line.....really? And to top it off, the pastries and food were absolutely horrible. I'm no food critic, but I know that when Burger King tastes better than a homemade sandwich from Shotz,....there's a problem. so $55.00 wasted. We ended up throwing away most of the sandwiches because they were not anything like they used to be....just really bad. And that's a first for my husband!!! All of the cookies were hard, and most were burned...
Read moreI called them 6/19 to order-and pay for-a strudel to pick up 6/21. This was after purchasing a strudel last year for a family get together. When I told my family that I was going to come to our yearly party with the same pastry they were thrilled. So I was confident that the thing would be ready and waiting for me. Especially since I already paid for the thing. Imagine my surprise when I was told that the morning crew had sold my (I paid for it afterall) strudel to someone else. The fact that it took a while for them to figure this out was astonishing. Between the time they sold the thing and my arrival they could have called to explain what had happened and that they were making another to replace it. But no. All they offered was a lot of disingenuous contrition and a few cookies. And when I returned to confront them about screwing up the order that I placed in addition to the strudel, while I was there in the store they gave me attitude and eye rolling.
To be fair I did tell them that I'd be in around noon to pick up the item. When I didn't come in by noon I can understand that they might have thought that I wasn't going to come in. But to not call me to verify is unforgivable.
We've been going to Schatt's all over CA and this is the first time we've been met with such inept customer service. I'll return again I'm sure as the pastries and other edibles are top-notch. But the customer service did not meet the mark. ...
