My visit was in December 2023, and all of our dishes tasted amazing. But it was frankly rather troubling to watch the servers literally race around as they tried to keep up with the orders. I am afraid one of the women in particular will have a heart attack one of these days. If you have ever worked in food service, it's hard to watch.
Moreover, it means that it takes a loooong time for food to come to your table. For my sister, mother, and I, this isn't a problem, as we're used to "fasting" until we can eat. But my dad becomes evil when he's hungry, and then our fun night out quickly sours due to his bad temper.
So, in summary, I wouldn't come here if:
-Someone in your party becomes irritable, shaky, cold, etc. if they go a long time without food. (Hyperglycemia and similar) -Someone in your party cannot handle a lot of noise, shouting, running around, chaos. (Autistic people or small children for instance) -Someone in your party has difficulty digesting heavy, salty and oily foods. Either someone with an actual digestive disorder, or someone who eats very "clean" all the time (I'm thinking in particular of my sister's French boyfriend who got very sick after eating here. The French digestive tract is not equipped to handle this type of thing.)
Also, just be aware that the staff does not speak English very fluently, so if you have a strong accent or affect, it might be harder to make yourself understood.
With all that said, the food really is wonderful and highly worth a little wait! I just wish that they would hire more servers. I don't believe that there's a shortage of workers to be found. Pay higher wages, and you'll find them quickly.

Read moreTaipei 101, named after a 101-story skyscraper that was once the tallest building in the world in Taipei, Taiwan, is a consistent, authentic, and affordable Chinese food option in the triangle and worth the drive from Raleigh: we’ve gone back many times between us. The best thing to get is the “griddle chicken with vegetables” which despite its uneventful name is the miraculous skillet full of perfectly grilled chicken, lotus root, onion and maybe a few other vegetables. Wow, this dish stuns with a balanced spice element that, at least in this part of the world, is unique. It’s shareable but also excellent as leftovers. Other fantastic dishes include the fried spicy fish which is just a lightly battered, fried white fish freckled in Szechuan pepper flakes. Served hot and crispy, the melt-in-your-mouth fish finishes with the spice that opens your whole maw, leaving you flush and satisfied, alive and invigorated but oh-so-comfortable. Even this dish is strangely good as leftovers on a bowl of rice. Also must-orders: the hand-made xio long bao (soup dumplings AKA “pillows of happiness” as Bourdain once called them), scallion-roasted beef pancake roll which is a thick, folded pastry stuffed with thick cuts of steak and herby veg, and whatever green vegetables with garlic (I love when the snow pea shoots are available), the beef chow fun with healthy pieces of steak and well-seasoned flat noodles that aren’t over-sauced or dripping in sodium. They serve a couple of beers, wines, and sakes too if you need a cold Tsingtao to wash it all down.
No-frills basic restaurant with booths and tables inside, and if you’re lucky you can find parking in the...
Read moreAuthentic Chinese food in town seriously! If you think those regular buffet in towns are Chinese, then you gotta try this first. Your whole idea about Chinese food will be changed for sure. I have been there several times and never was disappointed. For appetizers, Beef scallion pancake is a must. Those crunchy, crispy, flaky pancakes with thin slices of beef inside with sweet and savory sauce is absolutely a great starter. I tried steamed dumplings also, but those are not very special, and if you are from Bangladesh,India or Southeast Asia, those pancakes will be bit similar to your porota or some homemade evening snacks. Beef hotpot, streaky beef are my favorite always. Hot and spicy schezuan pepper flavored curry with lots of vegetables is a must if you are spicy lover. Toothpick lamb is another all-time favorite of mine, since it gives you a very kebab type vibe. Those bite size pieces coated with spicy seasoning, deep fried and served. If you are a fish lover, Crispy spicy fried fish is another top chart menu. If you wanna try something different (at your own risk) fish soup with pickled vegetables could be on the list. Sour soup base with boneless sea fish, and pickled cabbage is somewhat very very different than your regular types. You should give it a try once. Price is pretty high, but they serve smart amount of any dishes, so any dish can be eaten easily by 2/3 person at least. The dishes usually served with boiled rice. One good suggestion is, try to be there with a big group, so you can try several...
