My son is a big craft beer fan. One of the things we love doing together is traveling to the different breweries. He loves trying their beer. I love checking out the food (where available) and their decor/atmosphere. Today we decided to stop into your establishment around 2:30pm. Their was an older woman (probably my age 60ish) working behind the bar. As we approached the bar, she points her finger at my son and angrily says, "I know one thing. I'm checking your ID." Honestly. I wanted to leave right then. But I know my son was looking forward to going there. So I tried to lighten the mood and said, "You'll be surprised when you find out he's 37 years old." I know she was only doing her job by checking his ID. But it was the way she did it. He ordered a flight of beer. She gave him an ink pen and paper to fill out. The ink pen wasn't working well so she told him to use the clipboard to write on. It still didn't work. She then walked over, ripped the pen from his hand and tried it herself. It still did not work. So, she went and grabbed a different one for him to use. She reminded him, in her aggressive, angry voice, to use the clipboard. After which she picked it up and got him his beer. Even when she sat it down and explained the order of the beer. She was hateful. He ended up not drinking all of his beer. Because he just wanted to leave. When she came to take his payment (CC) she whipped that out of his hand and prominaded over to the register with it geld high in the air. When she returned I told her before we left.....had she ripped that ink pen out of my hand like that? That would have been it. I would have walked out. But not my son. He's a craft beer lover. Who really looked forward to trying your beer. And guess what? He loved it. But he, nor I, will ever step foot in your establishment again. And we'll be sure, as all unhappy customers do, to tell everyone about today. Btw.... I'm a former manager of a bar/restaurant. I've worked customer service all my adulthood. I've been in management 40 of those years. I would fire her without batting an eye.
And lastly. I mentioned to her that I read online that people come in to play euchre. She quickly said, "Not on Mondays and Tuesday they don't."
Hmmm..... think I figured out which nights this unhappy, angry, customer push away. Woman works.
$12 too much spent there today.
I gave 1 star because of the woman working.
3-1-24 The week after our visit. I called back to speak with a manager. I was told they were not there. I then asked to speak with the owner. Again, not there. So I inquired what was the best time to reach the owner. They only come in on Mondays and Tuesday after 2pm. Uh oh. Yes. That was the owner who waited on us that day. Wow. When he said she was the owner. I said, "I'm very sorry for you. That you have to put...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreReally like Schmohz a great deal. Ok look, when you go in Schmohz there is indeed a note on the board, which suggests leaving a comment. It does not āaskā for a positive comment. I just really happen to like the place. My favorite is āTreasure Chest ESBā extra special bitter. Do not let the name fool you, this is not an over the top bitter beer. I also like their Octoberfest beer and Hopknocker. My wife is crazy for the Gingerbeer, called Zingersomethingorother. I donāt like it but to each his or her own. The point is that there is a wide variety and if you like mocro brews you WILL find something to like. Look, I like the beers from Shorts, Founders, New Holland, Schmohz and pretty much all micro-breweries. Schmohz offers me something that the other ones do not. The "feeling" inside the Biergarten is unique. You may have to go more than once or twice to get it. It feels like you just came in with your friends from snomobiling or skiing are sitting down to have a beer or two. There is nothing fancy about this place. If you are a fancy boy, you are more than welcome but you will probably not āget itā. You are not going to go here to pick up a co-ed, ok? It is a very accepting and non-competitive atmosphere. I also really like being able to bring in my own food. You are welcome to have a pizza delivered or grab something from Smokey bones, just a skip away, bring it in and drink a few beers. Or show up with a few pizzaās and have everyone else buy your beer. You would be an instant legend. It is a great place and getting better...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went there yesterday to renew my mug. Iām from out of town so do not get here often. Uncharacteristic of them because until now I have been a huge fan for years as i always at least bought beer and growlers whether sat down or not.
A few negative things
I said I was mug member - sorry itās not on shelf I would have to look for it ⦠she did not want to because she and her friends were watching Christmas movie so I had beer in regular glass. She could have tried to at least give me a mug pour given I PAID for mug membership
uncharacteristic again I felt very unwelcome as I had to ask yo get service as her back was facing me at bar so she and the regulars can watch movie
Iām done. Iām not renewing and will never step foot in there again. I guess my mug club purchase was for naught. They could care less if I was there or not.
Itās not like there are not other great breweries in Grand Rapids. Have fun with your...
