Read more7/2021: Great fish and their famous clam chowder soup! My wife and I ordered the Fish O Filet Lunch Special. The fish tasted really good and the price too. The place was not too big and so you will see people sitting outside waiting to be seated from time to time. You can tell it must be good by that:). Servers were very friendly. Only thing I hope they can do better is to stay open later. Not only good for the tourists but also for their business.. . Update: 7/18/2022. Exactly a year later, we went to eat at the Tony's Restaurant again as we visited Cedar Key. We both ordered the Fish O Filet Lunch Special and cup of clam chowder again. We were surprised to find the Lunch Special price had gone up 40%, from $9.99 to $13.99. The quality of the fish also seems degraded. It seems a different kind of fish compared with the one we had a year ago. The fish was also battered differently, not as good as before. The size of the cup clam chowder was also smaller while its price had gone up $1. In view of the above, I have lowered my ratings from 5 Star in 7/2021 to 3 Star in 7/2022. Photos show the difference of the Fish O Filet: The photo showing the fish thinner (flatter) was 2022, while the thicker fish with tartar sauce on it was...
Read moreOn the corner of D Street and 2nd is Tony's Restaurant, a small eatery nestled in a picturesque historical building that oozes the kind of weathered salt spray charm that Cedar Key is all about. Low key and plainly furnished, Tony's is nonetheless clean and inviting after an afternoon's stroll around the town center. Their claim to fame beyond the confines of Cedar Key is the award they won for their original clam chowder. And as a maker of chowder at home, I can say that Tony's well deserved recognition for this recipe. My wife and I ate slowing, not just to savor the chowder but to consider how to improve our own. It really is awash in good strong clam taste without being overpowering or overtly "fishy". We enjoyed it so much that we bought two cans to bring home for later. We also had the blackened fish sandwich which was equally hearty, large portioned, and well crafted. The accompanying fries were thick, crunchy on the outside and soft within, exactly the way thick fries should be. The menu may not be extensive, but what we sampled was good, solidly cooked, well presented food. Our waitress, Elisha, was friendly and efficient without being intrusive. We would definitely recommend Tony's to anyone...
