I visited this Mi Corralito restaurant recently and had a less-than-pleasant experience. I ordered Lomo Saltado, and when I asked how much meat was on the plate, I was told it was 6 oz. However, once I got to my car and inspected the food, it was clear that the portion of meat was far less than what I was promised. (See pictures for accurate measurements of their meat, just the meat)
I went back to ask if I could purchase extra meat (just the meat, not the whole plate), but the lady up front was visibly upset, as if I were inconveniencing her. I wasn’t asking for anything free, just to pay for additional meat to make the dish more balanced. The plate had way more rice and fries than meat—like 3-4 times the amount of carbs compared to the protein. Honestly, the ratio was way off, and it felt like I was getting ripped off. Charging about $23 for 3 oz of meat and a mountain of carbs seems like a scam to me. (They sell the meat, veggies and juice separate from the rice and the fries. The meat, veggie and juice weighted 11.1oz see pictures)
What really annoyed me was the way I was treated when I questioned the portion size. She got defensive, which made me feel like I was being a nuisance for simply wanting to get what I paid for.
On the bright side, the flavors were on point. The taste was very authentic, almost like what you'd find in Lima at a Polleria. I’d give the flavors a solid 7.5 out of 10 for authenticity. If they could fix the portion issues—either by giving more meat or lowering the price—this place would have a much better chance of succeeding. Keep the flavors but improve the portions, and I’d consider...
Read moreWell seasoned and excellent texture. Came here with the family as per recommendations from some friends as a solid Halal chicken spot. Ordered the half chicken, Lomo Saltado, Tallarin Verde, and some side fries. Amazing! Chicken is nice and crispy, wonderful smoky taste and very well seasoned. They have a Peruvian hot sauce that definitely adds a great change-up and highly recommend the sauce (also for the fries too). Lomo Saltado was a very nice umami forward dish which was eaten with no hesitation. The Tallarin had a very nicely crisp fried chicken on the top with this beautiful verde pasta underneath that I wish I got more of since my children devoured it. Maybe one of the few restaurants that we've gone as a family where my children had each dish in equal portions rather than just eating fries (which they had none - although they are also amazing). Highly highly recommend. This is a restaurant that deserves more recognition and not just because they serve halal chicken. Will definitely be...
Read moreThis place is TOOOO good!!!! Husband and i were driving home and wanted to get food and he happened to find it on the map and we gave it a try. Let me tell you, I’m sooo happy we did! Everything we got was so full of flavor and so delicious! The chicken was moist, seasoned to perfection and cooked perfectly! The fried rice was the best I’ve ever had and the dipping sauce they give you was phenomenal! The plantains were perfect 10/10! Having lived in San Francisco and New York for 11 years, I have a hard time finding food here in AZ that is remotely good but this place really restored my faith in good food!! Also the older couple working there (I think the owners) delightful humans!! Please go here so it status open because it’s some of the best food I’ve had in...
