Read moreSup Dogs deserves 10 not 5 stars! If one would like to summarize the nature of this lovely student oriented small restaurant in two words, those words would be: EXCEPTIONAL VALUE
The place has a great ambience, however things go downhill from there.
First off, it the waiters about 45 mins to get us our food and they were not remotely busy. Also our food did not come out all at the same time.
Next, the food is not even praiseworthy of the catchy name of the restaurant!!!
I had the hotdog meal with onions, ketchup and chilli..I added another hotdog for $1.00...the meal with the one hotdog was almost $7 and that's without the drink..I also added onion rings instead of fries which was another $1 more. The drink did not come with this almost $7 meal..so with adding another hotdog and the onion rings, my meal is almost $9 and that's still without the drink..at almost $2. Now the food in itself is where the fault lies. I could have gone to the grocery store and had a better meal for far less. There is nothing special about the hotdogs...they kinda taste like turkey hotdogs to me..not beef. There is nothing special about the onion rings which are frozen out the bag..I asked. Nothing special about the chilli..looks like it came out of a can. My fiance had the veggie burger meal and he said it tasted like the Boca Vegetarian burgers from the box. My daughter has nachos and cheese and the cheese was just microwaved over the nachos...it looked stale and as if it were pasted on..and did not taste good. My son had some burger meal with lettuce ,ketchup and the fries..He liked it but said we should have gone to Cookout. I paid about $46 for the four of us ..When I could have just gone to the grocery store for a much better and cheaper experience!
We went to CookOut the next night and had better food for half the price we spent here.
So if you are looking for a good, affordable , decent ,cheap meal try Cookout ...and if you want and even Better Hotdog experience try Tasty 8's in Raleigh! I made the mistake of thinking this place would be on the level of Tasty 8's in Raleigh...by looking at the backdrop and mood of the place however things were sadly put into perspective by the way the food tasted and looked!
So all in all...
Read moreThe food I got to try were the Jalapeño Tator tots, veggie burger with cheesy tots, and the veggie hot dog with onion rings and their secret sauce. I also had a couple French fries to taste.
The jalapeño tator tots were just tater tots topped with shredded cheese, sour cream, hot sauce, and chopped jalapeños. I will say that they were decent, but I was a bit disappointed as I love spicy food and the jalapeños they used were pretty mild. After tasting, I determined that the hot sauce they used was most likely Texas Pete.
The veggie burger was really good. The patty itself was pretty savory and not too salty as some make them. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that the patties are made in-house.
The cheesy tots upheld its namesake -- tater tots with melted cheese on top. Tasted heavenly when paired with ranch or with mustard (or other dressing of your liking).
The veggie dog had lettuce and cheese, a pickle under the wiener, and the wiener itself. It was cooked properly and tasted pretty good. Wasn't spectacular but definitely worth a try if you want to cut back on meat.
The onion rings weren't the best I've tasted, but were still decent. They could make them better by frying them a bit longer or using a different type of breadcrumb mix (unless they use frozen onion rings).
I was told that their "secret sauce" was suppose to be a mixture of various sauces. Take this as you will, but it pretty much just tasted like BBQ sauce.
Finally, the service. I would say that for the level of crowded it was that the service was phenomenal. Both of the people who served us interacted with us and were friendly, even if we had come kinda late night and they were probably already working for some hours.
Overall: some of the food was great, some was good, but I'm cutting a star because nothing was spectacular. Take that with a grain of salt though, I would definitely go here again, and I think it's worth a try if you live in the area or...
