I really wanted to love Dockery’s....
1st Time: The first time I went I would’ve given it 4.5 stars. It was the 3rd night open, extremely busy and still had to wait with reservations but only 5 minutes. Our waitress was amazing, knew the menu well. We tried the duck tots and loved them so much. They were filled with lots of duck and a touch of creamy sweet potato and lightly fried finished with a perfect tart cherry sauce. A little pricey at $14 but thought if they tasted like that then I’ll gladly pay it. For dinner, I got the 1/2 Chicken. It was moist, good flavor and a great portion. The veggies paired with the chicken were a bit disappointing overall, very floppy and drenched in the juices from the chicken, and there was only 3 pieces of veggies total. Just a little expensive for $21 but decided to treat myself that night. My other half had the brisket sandwich (I had a bite and thought it was okay) but he really liked it and I liked the fries on the side. We didn’t get any dessert because there were no chocolate options.
2nd time: Tried again before Christmas, a few weeks after our first time. Had another reservation and were seated right away. BUT tonight was completely underwhelming. To start, the duck tots were not the same as the first night. It tasted like it was previously frozen and stuck into a fryer and over fried. You could see small chunks of uncooked sweet potato and there was hardly any duck this time. Like almost no duck at all and it wasn’t creamy like the first time trying it. I tried the burger this time, it was okay, but wouldn’t order again for $16. Should have known it wouldn’t be anything to write home about since I wasn’t asked how I wanted it cooked. My other half refused his “Carolina” shrimp pasta. I didn’t even want to try it. Over cooked shrimp mixed with a very strange unappetizing sauce - nothing southern about it. Our server brought the “manager” over to rectify the situation. She walked over hands in her pockets, just looked super unapproachable, like she didn’t want to be there or talk to anyone. Shouldn’t managers walk around with a smile and ask you how you’re enjoying your meal so far? Fast forward, he got the brisket sandwhich to replace it. He thought it was decent this time around but not like the first time. Fries were still good.
I think the whole menu should come down $2-6 in prices on every single item. $7 for a side of fries?! $7 for a cider? $11-$14 for a extra small cocktail?
We really wanted to love Dockerys. Told several friends and family members about it after the first night we went. Kind of embrassed I suggested it to so many people now. I just truly hope you have people reading this (yelp, Facebook and trip advisor) and making changes. You have such an opportunity here on the island and a beautiful space. The outside area is very cool as well.
The reason I go back to any restaurant I like again and again is one word...consistency. For those reason I probably wouldn’t return to your establishment unless...
Read moreDecided to stop in after dinner for some drinks with friends. Inside was a little to loud to be able to have comfortable conversation so decided to go outside even though it was a windy wet night. Noticed people left one of the fire tables so i went to the hostess stand and asked if it would be ok if we sat at the table. The hostess said we could but she would have to find us a server. I told her we were ok with going up to the bar and that we currently had drinks. As we sat at the dirty table and were perfectly fine with that the server Carson came to the end of the table and said we couldn’t sit there it was a server table. I told her i had gone to the hostess stand and she said it was ok. I know people don’t always follow rules on seeing the hostesses but we did. I also understand servers sometimes have to remind people. What I’m not ok with was Carsons rude and angry attitude. Because she immediately went inside and had a conversation with the hostess. I went to use the restroom and came back to our group sitting at a different table and was told Carson and her horrible demeanor came back out yet again telling them to move. Now i can see if there was a line or long waits but the outside was basically half empty because of the weather so was it really such a problem that we sat at a table with some warmth that actually remained empty for the hour and half we were there. So i went to the outside bar and was greeted by a very friendly bartender Abby. I said its nothing you did but could you send a manger to our table whenever she had a chance. Abby came over to our table and explained the manager was slammed behind the line and would be out as soon as she could. Appreciated Abby letting us know and told her no rush we were gonna be around for awhile. Kate the manager came to our table and apologized after hearing what happened. Even said she didn’t see the big deal and she would handle it. After a couple more rounds was even told Carson denied ever saying anything to us. Yes Carson we switched seats twice and made it all up just to make you look bad lol. Overall its a great brewery and we have been several times. Beer and food have always been great and actually most of the staff are amazing. Highly recommend sitting outside at the bar with Abby and Justin who are very entertaining and great. Kate is a great manager even the hostesses where super friendly. So don’t let one bad server discourage you from trying this place just request not to have lil miss attitude would be...
Read moreMy wife and I came here on July 4th around 2:30 p.m. There was a 30-minute wait and my wife had an upset stomach so I went to one of the 2-3 empty stools to order a ginger ale while we waited. The bartender consistently kept his head down and didn't acknowledge or approach me for about 5 minutes even though he was tending to other patrons. Meanwhile two bar stools opened up next to each other so my wife and I decided to sit at the bar to forgo the wait. This is where things get into one-star territory. The bartender eventually came over to me and I asked for a ginger ale and two menus. He acknowledged my request and about 10 minutes went by and he never brought the ginger ale or menus. So my wife went to the hostess stand to grab two menus and so we would be prepared to order drinks and food in one fell swoop. The place was busy but not slammed. However, this bartender had one mode, slow. He kept his head down and worked the bar from right to left, seeming incapable of taking orders from patrons as they arrived. I know this because I saw him take 2-3 orders from people who sat at the bar AFTER us. At this point the writing is on the wall so when we go to leave, I ask to speak to the manager. I bring up my complaints to the manager and in response, she immediately defends the bartender and says we're just really busy but I can bring you a ginger ale. You'll have to trust me when I say she had a nasty I could care less tone. I say that won't be necessary because we are leaving. Not appreciating her lack of acknowledgement, I respond that actually your bartender isn't that busy. This is a brewery. He's only pouring drafts. There are empty pint glasses sitting in front of people all around the bar. There are a few empty bar stools. Hearing none of it, she cut me off, sarcastically said happy Independence Day and walked off. Do yourself a favor, avoid this place and go to one of the many better establishments on...
