Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Charlotte

ONLY ONE THING saved it from being zero stars. I went here on two occasions, the second one by accident, I had no intentions of coming back after the first time. Long honest review, it you want the gist of it: horrible managers, food will be wrong or undercooked, waitresses are rude, have to ask another waiter just to get serviced, waste of money.

The first time I went, nothing was out of the ordinary in the beginning. But when my food arrived, it was the wrong flavor. I asked for boneless buffalo wings. It was instead BBQ flavor, which I don’t like sweet flavors they make my stomach cramp and make me nauseous. I thought I was making a simple request when I just asked the waitress to actually replace it with BUFFALO, which is what I ordered in the first place. She brought back literally the BBQ flavored ones with buffalo sauce on top. (Probably the cook did it, I can’t put the blame on her). She asked if everything was okay and I said no, it tastes like BBQ and buffalo sauce. She brings the manager over, who was a complete * for no reason. The manager took off $2.50 from the bill, and I ended up just having to give my meal away to my friend who was at the table and his little brother. I also paid for the entire meal since it was my treat so I literally ate nothing but had a hefty bill. Now the little brother ordered shrimps and chicken I believe, and his chicken was COLD and not edible. I personally tried it and told him don’t eat it, it would make him sick so that’s how they ended up eating my sad boneless wings. My friend’s food was fine he said. Time to pay, and I’m using the little mobile thing on the table. I start filling out the survey giving them a bad score, and before finishing it, they shut the device off remotely. I don’t know if that’s possible, but it is just so ironic that it shut off during the survey but worked perfectly fine when I had to pay on it. I vowed never to come back after that horrible experience with the manager being rude and having the nerve to get mad at me when they could have fixed something so simple and I was never rude once (don’t be rude to those who cook and/or serve your food)

Fast forward to about a week ago. My boyfriend was driving to Applebee’s after we came from downtown because I love applebee’s food, just not the university location’s. Since he is driving, he convinced me to give it a try. We walk in and was promptly greeted and was sat at a table. So far so good. Until about 15 minutes in we never saw our waitress. At this point I’m ready to go, he’s not, I tried to explain my previous experience here but he wasn’t there so he didn’t understand I felt something bad looming. So she finally comes, she’s an older women so I just chalk it up to maybe she has to move slow. So I give her a chance. She takes our drink orders. We don’t see her for another 10 minutes until another couple is seated across from us. She waits on them immediately and then comes to us and asks if we are ready to order. We been ready before we even ordered drinks but after telling her the drinks she walked away so fast we couldn’t get them in. So we order our food, and I was going to order a margarita but she walked away AGAIN. Did not ask us if we were finished ordering!!! So another 20 minutes go by she brings our food. I have to tell her while she’s placing the food that I would like a straw, I haven’t touched my drink all this time waiting on one. Mind you, she has walked past our table a couple of times waiting on that one couple and one other small table but did not check up on us and when I try to stop and ask something she’s just walking away before I can get close. At this point we have to flag down a different waiter to wait on us because we just weren’t getting anywhere with her. He kindly gave us utensils and even checked up on us. She did once after she delivered the food but it was too late, we already had everything. It’s August 14th 2025 at 730pm. It’s dead in here. Very quiet even. I got here awaiting to be seated. Waited still nobody. So I went to the restroom. Came back to be seated. Finally about 5 more minutes I finally got greeted to be seated. Approaching table only to realize floor is very sticky. The table I was placed at wobbled very bad and it was sticky. Sat at another table that was decent. I ordered cheeseburger with onion rings and soup. It’s so dark in this place that you would think you are in a movie theater. Don’t know if I’m coming to eat or coming to get robbed. Burger tasted okay. Onion rings are very bland with no accommodations of sauce. Only thing available was ketchup. Wow. Tomato basil soup tasted like straight salt. Very poorly made. Debating on dessert. Maybe not. Only great thing about my experience is my waitress. Thank you. I enjoyed your customer care and service. Her name is diona. Other than that, this was a big bust tonight. This ship has sunk!!!!!!

Been watching staff walk by while I am waiting to be seated. I stood so long that I had to use the restroom. Then I took upon myself to seat myself. Restaurant not even halfway crowded. Finally someone comes to see if I’m waiting on someone. I informed the waitress that I been waiting to be seated and just seated myself. Haven’t ordered yet. Okay so 10 minutes later I got appetizer of spinach dip and nacho chips. Not bad. But I’m hungry. I ordered a strawberry nut and vinaigrette salad with chicken. However chicken very dry. Some of the lettuce is wilted meaning it’s not fresh. Strawberries are sliced okay. Onions are rare and cut small. Not fresh because it smells funky. So ordering tomato and basil soup. Waiting to see how long it takes to get another water. Cup empty. They used the same cup the first time saying they had no more cups. Still waiting for my soup. It’s been 15 minutes. Finally came after about 20 minutes. It’s not bad tasting. But still waiting on water. Wow. 25 minutes. They may be really understaffed. But what really burned me is when I got my to go box for the chips and dip, I wasn’t given a container for the dip so it went in with the chips meaning the chips about to soggy. Thanks guys!!!! If I could give this particular Applebee's 0 stars I would. We've been there several times and each time we left disappointed. The last time we visited this place it was so bad, we vowed NEVER to go back there again. We had to wait at least 30 minutes for a table but that wasn't our main complaint. It was a weekend, Saturday night to be exact, so we expected a wait. Once we were seated, we realized we were seated across from a family with a few unruly kids. No biggie because it happens from time to time. What really angered us was our scatter-brained waitress. She was totally inept. She couldn't even get our drink order right. That was our first sign that we weren't going to have a good meal. We ordered flavored lemonades. I asked to have mine with no ice. She returned with the drinks and I had gotten the wrong flavor and it had ice in it. I pointed out the mistake and she apologized and took it back. When she arrived for the second time, she had the flavor right but there was ice in it again. I decided to just let it slide. We ordered our dinners waited, and waited, and waited. It must have been 30 - 35 minutes before it came. She set our plates down and scurried off. She never even gave us silverware or napkins. We managed to flag down another waitress and asked for silverware and napkins. She went to go get them and never returned. After about 10 minutes a man came around checking on each table. I assumed he was a manager. We told him about the silverware and napkins and he apologized and brought them right away. At this time the bungling waitress comes over to ask if we needed anything. At that point we didn't. She went over to the next table and they complained about something and we heard her apologizing. She went to another table and they complained and we heard her apologizing again. Apparently she was screwing up orders at every table. We finished the meal, paid, and left without tipping.
