We had our daughter's engagement party here hosted by her future in-laws. Pre-event communication was a bit hap-hazard from what I understand. I'll start with the positive - it's a cute venue & is nicely decorated. They have a nice selection of beer & wines as well as specialty cocktails. The DJ they arranged did a great job of upbeat music that wasn't too loud you couldn't have conversations. The manager on that day, Pearla, was very helpful & responsive. Now the negative: The coordinator Tori told the groom's mom she was leaving town the day before the event & didn't give names of who to contact - just gave descriptions. I arrived at 3 (our scheduled time to start setting up) & there were still people at the bar ordering drinks. When I asked the blonde bartender about closing for clean-up/prep, she said "well they were here before 3 so you'll have to talk to my manager". The door guy also didn't know it was going to be a private/exclusive event so communication was clearly lacking before Tori left town. After finding Pearla, they finally shut things down but we had to ask to get the tables wiped down, the trash cleaned off the tables & to get something that looked like vomit cleaned off the floor in front of one of the couches! Not all the tables were wiped down so the groom's dad ended up wiping them down so it would get done! Once things got going, Pearla was making excellent mojitos (the signature drink) but the blonde bartender was making them with sweet & sour, not muddling the lime or mint & it was absolutely not a mojito. I told Pearla & she spoke to her but throughout the night, they were never correct. It was the signature drink so when something that should be clear comes out looking a cloudy light yellow & sometimes yellow/orange, there is something fundamentally wrong with the bartending skills. We had several people complain about the blonde's attitude & just overall lack of pleasant demeanor. We worked hard to ensure our daughter & future son in law didn't sense the issues but when the bartender gives the future bride attitude because she points out her signature drink isn't right, there's a real problem there.
So, if you're not picky about your drinks being made properly & don't mind attitude from the majority of the staff, & a very gross floor, it might be a great little place to enjoy some drinks. Pearla saved the day so I will give 5 stars to her, but the rest of the place - not worth more than 2 stars. Sad given the amount of money they paid...
Read moreINTRO: It's about time that Charlotte had its own iconic, Instagrammable rooftop bar! This bar emits a California-esque atmosphere that is guaranteed to repel all negative energy and bring out your good vibes, even if you didn't think it was possible. It surprised me, and it'll surprise you too.
DRINKS: Their cocktails are reasonably priced and aren't diluted at all. They are extremely generous with their alcohol. Their cocktails are full of flavors and are comprised of unique combinations of ingredients.
VENUE: The ceiling and the walls of the venue are BEAUTIFULLY decorated with faux flowers that are attached to a wire mesh. The white/pink blend of flowers contrasted with the clear blue sky, coupled with the slight breeze and the sun smiling down on you, will make you feel some type of way. You'll take a sip of your cocktail, and suddenly, you'll be deep in your feels. Your eyes will be instantly drawn to the huge neon sign, located adjacent to the bar, that says "wish you were here". Any picture uploaded on social media with this sign will make all of your friends wish they were at Novelty House with you, and you'll be the center of their jealousy.
DRESS CODE: There IS a dress code, and it is available on their website. Please take a look at their clothing requirements so that you don't get turned away at the door.
PARKING: Street parking is available. Parking garages are also a short walk away.
WORTH IT? YES, NH is a MUST-VISIT rooftop bar to complete the...
Read moreWent for the first time last night (9/14) at a friend's invitation. Absolutely loved it. The ambience is perfect and exactly what Charlotte has needed for years. It's classy without being overly opulent or pretentious.
I've read some other reviews and I can say that I saw none of those things.
They do not serve food - so one review has to be fake.
The ambience reminds one of a lounge in a European city. (Paris, London, Rome). If you've every visited those cities and spent time in an establishment you'll understand what I mean. It's pretty cosmopolitan - reminded me of a Four Seasons.
If you have to inquire about a dress code - then more than likely, this is not the place for you. The atmosphere is that where one does not need to question it because they already know the appropriate attire for when they go out. Dress code is just code for minimum required attire.
Drinks were great. (I'm a bourbon fanatic) and they had a good selection of whiskeys and scotches. This is not the place for the Jello shot crowd.
Verdict: A solid hit. I've been looking for a place in Charlotte like this for years, and I finally found it. If you want a great vibe rooftop spot to just chill out and have a few cocktails, this...
