This was my first time visiting The Wafflery, and while there were some highlights, the experience overall felt mixed. When I arrived, there was no clear signage or direction, so l had to figure things out on my own. I picked up a menu and got in line, not realizing it was more of a counter-service, self-serve setup. The space is clean and minimal-definitely not a place you'd visit for aesthetics or atmosphere. At the register, I asked for a drink recommendation. The staff member mentioned she didn't drink and couldn't offer much insight, I went with the Spiked Latte with Hennessy ($13), but unfortunately, it tasted bitter and watered down-not something I'd order again. chose the à la carte Banana Crunch Caramel Waffle, but was charged for the $14 large version instead of the $6 option I had clearly pointed to. I also added the jalapeño grits, which looked basic but turned out to be perfectly seasoned and incredibly flavorful. The waffle was crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside-definitely the highlight of the meal alongside the grits. There is outdoor seating available, but it consists of picnic-style benches with attached seats, which can be really uncomfortable-especially if you're wearing a dress. It was difficult to sit down modestly without revealing something you didn't intend to, and the fixed seating doesn't offer much flexibility or comfort. They give you a number and bring the food to your table, which had me thinking there would be some basic table service. I wasn't told I needed to grab my own silverware, and once my food arrived outside, the server informed me l had to go back inside to get utensils myself. I was honestly surprised that the staff member who delivered the food wouldn't just bring them-especially since I was already seated and clearly unprepared. By the time I returned, the flies had already started enjoying my plate. Between the drink, waffle, grits, and a tip, the total came to around $45. While I wouldn't say the meal was worth that full amount, the waffle and grits alone were definitely worth the try. Overall, The Wafflery is a decent option if you're in the mood for a no-frills, quick bite with great flavor. But if you're seeking strong customer service, comfortable seating, or a polished, sit-down experience, this probably isn't the...

When we walked in we got on the line and stood there for about five minutes before my wife finally told the young lady at the register that we would like to order. She never greeted us or even acknowledged us. She was in her own world putting away items from boxes. We ordered two grilled shrimp and grits and one waffle which we paid $45 for. The waffle was soft, not crispy at all and was covered with powdered sugar (which the menu does not mention). For a waffle place, it was a sad, sad waffle— a hotel continental breakfast has better waffles. When we got the food, I took one bite and asked the girl at the counter if the waffles were always soft. She asked me if it had come out like that as if we made it soft at the table or something. The grits tasted like 5 minute quick grits you can make at home in your own kitchen and the shrimp was too heavily seasoned to taste good. My stomach hurt after I ate. Also, another employee was walking around seeming to clean, spraying windows while people were eating but the dining area felt unclean with trash under the tables. A collection of dead gnats were resting along the inside of the window sills. My wife overheard another customer asking her to clean their table before they sat. The bathroom had supplies lying around. The music was hella loud and the cushions on the booths were dirty. Wish that I could find something positive to say but finding it deeply difficult. Feeling like we wasted our money and time and the place (food, atmosphere, cleanliness, service) leaves a lot to be desired. Would...
Read moreFirst time trying this on Sunday. I ordered an apple pie biscuit at the counter but told them it was a “to go” order, and to put the caramel sauce on the side. They gave me a number 18, and I was told to sit and wait, and that it would be brought to me.
I waited about 45 minutes and noticed many people ahead of me had already ate and left. I finally go up to check their shelves of pickup orders, and as I’m going looking at the receipts taped to the orders, a staff appears and I tell her I’m looking for order 18. She just said “yeah sorry” and walked off. I know they were slammed yesterday but still. When I got it, it was also already cold :(
I get home, the caramel sauce was drizzled all over, the ice cream was on the side, and there was also no whipped cream at all- not on the side or on the biscuit.
So I waited when I was told the order would be brought to me, staff seemed unbothered about the mistake, order was wrong and missing an item.
What I had did taste yummy after I scraped off the caramel and heated it up in the microwave at home, but the overall experience left much to be desired, and I know there are many other places left in Charlotte that I could try that has both delicious food and great service.
I would not have minded if it was only one issue, but to wait AND have my order wrong/missing a part of it was too much. Like I said, this is not the only brunch/breakfast place...
