Because we had not planned dinner at home and had heard so many good things about Wooden City, we decided to give it a try. We can’t give it a full review as we did not order cocktails or dessert, however we did order the bone marrow appetizer and the Country-style pork chop. I had never had bone marrow, so I can’t compare to other establishments. We haven’t seen this offered in other restaurants in Chattanooga so wanted to branch out. The presentation was lovely, served in the bone, with caramelized onions and mustard with a slice of toasted sourdough. It was a fatty, gelatinous texture with not a lot of flavor—I tasted more of the onion than anything. Again, my first experience with bone marrow. My partner has had bone marrow, although served differently—mixed with butter and served on a steak. He also felt it didn’t have much flavor. The pork chop was delicious—not dry or over cooked. It was served on top of puréed sweet potatoes with candied pecans (menus says walnuts, but definitely was pecans) and charred brussel sprout leaves. Plus two additional sauces on the top. The flavor of all the items individually was good, but it seemed a strange mix of items together on a pork chop. Although we wouldn’t order these items again, we will certainly go back. We did order the Caribbean Jerk Cauliflower with jerk crema as a side. This was the highlight for us! A must try! The staff was absolutely delightful (from the host to the servers) and so attentive! The atmosphere was modern and sort of industrial, with high ceilings and beautiful moldings. Nice touches like votive candles and a water carafe left on the tables. The cocktails looked fantastic so we will certainly go back to try some of those! Sorry, no photo of the bone marrow—we dug in before thinking about it. We live in Northshore and walked so can’t comment on the parking and have no dietary restrictions. We would recommend giving...
Read moreLocated in the heart of Chattanooga, Wooden City exemplifies upscale American cuisine with a touch of elegance and warmth. Our recent dining experience at this renowned restaurant was nothing short of extraordinary.
To start our meal, we opted for the Heirloom Tomatoes appetizer. The dish arrived beautifully presented, showcasing vibrant heirloom tomatoes paired exquisitely with creamy burrata cheese and a delightful pesto bread pudding. Each bite was a burst of freshness and flavor, setting a high standard for the rest of our dining experience.
For our main course, the Wagyu Babette immediately caught our attention, and it did not disappoint. Cooked to perfection, the Wagyu was incredibly tender, practically melting on the palate with each forkful. Accompanied by a side of potato gratin that can only be described as unparalleled, this dish stood out as a highlight of the evening.
Even our children were delighted with their pizzas, each generously sized at 12 inches. While one pizza initially arrived with the wrong toppings, our waiter swiftly rectified the mistake. Not only did he offer a sincere apology, but he also expedited a replacement pizza that arrived promptly and accurately. To our surprise and delight, he even boxed up the incorrect pizza for us to take home, ensuring that nothing went to waste.
Overall, our experience at Wooden City was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of delicious food, attentive service, and a warm ambiance made for a memorable dining outing. We look forward to returning to Wooden City in the future to indulge once again in their outstanding cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a delightful culinary adventure in...
Read moreReally beautiful restaurant with really attentive and personable bar staff.
They have a nice beer selection and wine prices were fair. Happy hour is great! We didn't care for their daiquiri though - the lime juice tasted a little old/astringent. However, the bulevar cocktail (with mezcal, campari, cold brew and cacao??) sounded weird AF but was amazing!
We were here for my birthday so ordered a ton of food. It was hit of miss for us. The misses were mainly on my side.
We started with the prosciutto toast which was very tasty but the pepper jam stuff masked all of the nice ham flavor. The mushroom skewers were very watery IMHO. I did not like them at all (despite loving mushrooms) but my husband thought they were good. /shrug.
Next we had the bone marrow. It was one of the better bone marrows we've had. It was beautifully presented and the bread and onion jam went great with it.
For entrees we had the surf and turf and the lamb bolognese.
The steak was a bit stringy and slightly over cooked. I wouldn't get this again. I hate to say this but we had the filet at Grill and Chill the day before and it was a better cut of meat and way more tender. That being said, the creamy lobster bits were very very tasty. I didn't like the lobster dumplings very much (too big/soft/bland) but my husband did.
The lamb bolognese was great. Very tender pasta and very flavorful sauce. It's a bit different in that the meat isn't mixed in with the sauce but sitting on top like pieces of lamb sausage.
Normally husband and I are in almost complete agreement on flavors so we will have to come back and try the food again on a...
