I came to Chicago to visit my Operation BBQ Relief buddy Mike with Big Mike's Rides on my way from PA to Missouri, yes I know it's a little out of the way, but so worth it. I have never been to Chicago and Mike spared no expenses to bring me here for dinner. Nathaniel and Ashton were absolutely wonderful! They took exceptionally good care of us and when we explained how me and Mike met volunteering in NC after Hurricane Helene and how we hadn't seen each other since November and I was headed west for an event and made a point to come see him, they were moved by our work and our friendship and treated us to AMAZING DESSERTS! Dinner was delicious, but I am all about desserts. I also shared with them that I have an "adopted" (adopted by hearts) son from Brazil and when he was home we celebrated at a Brazilian Steakhouse in PA but it closed with Covid. Another touching moment as I shared pictures, They invited us to come back next time he's home to visit, I always take people up on their invites, so see you again soon. And to anyone thinking about coming here for dinner, do it! The foods delicious, the staff is wonderful, the atmosphere is relaxing, even when it's a full house, it's still relaxing as everyone is busy enjoying conversation with their friends and family, interacting with the staff, and/or busy enjoying the delicious food! And I highly recommend the tomato soup, fried cheese, and all the steaks!!!!!!Steaks!!!!!!! Don't skip any of then. And if you see Nathaniel and Ashton tell them Free Hugs sent you. #FreeHugs #WeareOBR #operationbbqrelief...
Read moreFrom the moment we stepped into Fogo de Chão Chicago, we knew we were in for a treat — but what truly made our experience unforgettable was our incredible server, Kevin.
We were celebrating my son Andrew’s 15th birthday, and Kevin made it a night to remember. He didn’t just serve us — he connected with our family in a way that felt warm, genuine, and effortlessly charming. Right away, he picked up on the fact that we had kids with us and adjusted his entire demeanor to be both fun and respectful — striking that rare balance that only the best in hospitality can manage.
Andrew, who can sometimes be a bit shy in restaurants, lit up thanks to Kevin’s wit and kindness. From perfectly timed dad-jokes to playful banter about who could eat the most picanha, Kevin had Andrew smiling, laughing, and feeling like the star of the evening. At one point, he even brought out a “birthday skewer” of Andrew’s favorite cut — whether that’s on the official menu or not, it was an incredible gesture that made the whole table cheer.
Kevin also had a real knack for reading the room. He made sure my younger child was included in the fun, engaging with them about the salad bar and even somehow convincing them to try the charred pineapple (which they now swear is better than candy). He seamlessly adapted his service style between making my wife and I feel like royalty and keeping the kids thoroughly entertained.
Beyond the table-side charm, Kevin was impressively knowledgeable. He walked us through each cut of meat, made thoughtful drink suggestions, and even gave us a quick backstory on the origins of Fogo’s gaucho tradition, which Andrew — a budding history buff — loved.
We’ve dined in many restaurants, and we’ve had great servers. But Kevin? Kevin is a league of his own. His charisma, attention to detail, and sheer ability to elevate the energy of an entire table are what hospitality is all about. Fogo de Chão is lucky to have him, and we feel lucky we had him for Andrew’s birthday celebration.
If you’re visiting Fogo de Chão in Chicago and want your experience to be next-level — ask for Kevin. You’ll leave with a full stomach and a full heart.
Thank you, Kevin, for making Andrew’s birthday dinner absolutely perfect. We’ll be talking about it for...
Read moreDisappointed by “The Full Experience” at Fogo de Chão
We visited Fogo de Chão excited to try their discounted “Taste of Brazil” promotion, but since it's a steakhouse, we opted for the full $68 experience expecting a wide range of meats and a premium dining experience. We made it extremely clear that we wanted the "full". We all ordered it.
The evening started off fine; our server seated us quickly, and the bread came out promptly. But from there, everything slowed to a crawl. Despite ordering the full experience, the servers kept circling back with just chicken, over and over. I politely asked for ribeye or prime rib (clearly visible on other tables), but was repeatedly told I needed to “upgrade.” It was incredibly frustrating to keep explaining that we had already ordered the full option.
For long stretches of like 10 minutes at a time, we were left entirely without service. Then, near the end of the meal, they suddenly rushed out a few cuts of better-quality meat, almost like they finally realized we weren’t on the cheaper plan. But by then, the damage was done.
Dining at this price point should feel like an experience. Instead, it felt like a negotiation. I spent the evening advocating for the food we were promised, under constant pressure to “upgrade,” while staff made jokes about how much chicken they’d given us. One server even said, “Let me check if that’s on the menu,” about an item we had just seen going around to other tables.
To top it off, the manager came by at the end to ask if we needed anything else, but by then, I wasn’t hungry. I was stressed, disappointed, and frankly felt hustled.
We still tipped 20%, because I’ve worked service and understand how things go. But this experience felt less like dinner and more like a scam. I won’t be going back. Just charge a fair price and serve what’s promised—no games, no haggling. There's no class in that situation.
UPDATE::: Fogo de Chao reached out to me via one of their managers. He was direct, professional, and eager to listen to my story. So, maybe this one experience wasn't so great due to some miscommunication. However - the follow up was very legit, and I give them...
