We purchased a gift certificate from Virgin experiences to try this restaraunt on a whim. We were excited to go considering it was a GR restaraunt and we enjoy watching his cooking shows. We had a reservation for 6:30, which was good because this place was BUSY!!! We were not certain what the certificate entails, so we were happy that our server explained how it worked to us. We found out we could get 2 burgers, 2 drinks, 2 sides, and an appetizer as well for the certificate. So, we ordered the chicken wings, truffle fries, and onion rings, and the buffalo chicken burger, and truffle burger. We were seated at the Chef's table, which was fun. I have served in my life, and I enjoy watching the food being prepared, expedited, and served. Claire was our server, and seemed very busy this night. Lots of tables in the place were full of people. The chicken wings were AMAZING! We had the garlic parmesan wings, and they were light, crispy, and not greasy at all. Great flavor, and taste. The same goes for the onion rings and truffle fries. We LOVED them both. However, the burgers ( mine especially) fell very SHORT of our expectations. My partner ordered the buffalo chicken burger, and his was medium rare, instead of being medium. He said it was on, and he would just eat it, which was because he was very hungry after walking over 19,000 steps around Chicago that day. Mine ( the Truffle burger) was mostly raw, and VERY bloody and had only brown on the outside, and not much at that, and the " fried egg" was completely runny. I took one bite, and sent it back ( politely) asking for it to be remade. I couldn't eat that burger. It was barely cooked. I waited for our server to notice that I had pushed the plate to the end of the table, and was not eating the food. She was very busy and didn't. It was a good 10 minutes before a different server approached the table and asked me about the burger. I explained, and then he referred me to the lady doing the expediting, on the line. I explained again what had happened and how I would like my burger remade, and specified the cook on the burger and the fried egg. She went to write it down. I hoped it would be correct. It took a while ( 15 minutes) and when the burger was brought out to me ( by a different server), not the expediter, on the line, or our server, I realized immediately that this was the Brunch burger, not the Truffle burger, and it was WELL DONE! At this point, I was annoyed, and was not going to wait ANOTHER 10 plus minutes for a burger. I told Claire that I was not interested in the burger and asked her if we could get the check and leave please? She did apologize for the mixup. I was told that I could fill out my information and we would get a certificate for any of the GR restaraunts, and go somewhere else to use it. Since we were from out of town, I clarified that with her, and she said yes. So. I'm waiting for the certificate via email, at this point. I am disappointed in the burgers there. The sides were great. But, for a burger place to fall SO SHORT of the expectations of the nuggets, is unacceptable. I would NOT recommend this place for the burgers. I would for the...
Read moreWe wanted to come here ever since we heard the place opened, but then the bad reviews started trickling in and we kept postponing. It's now at the verge of venturing into 3.x territory, with less than a 100 reviews. Well today we were walking nearby and decided to check it out. It's Friday evening and it's as busy as it gets. Luckily, we were able to get a table with less than 10 minutes waiting. We ordered two Forests and one Euro burger, with truffle fries and sweet potato fries. I went to wash my hands before the food came in, when disaster struck: No air dryer, and no towels left. I saw the manager hustling to find towels which were seemingly out everywhere. Dear God, the reviews must be right. This place is just a famous name slapped onto mediocrity, right? Well, then the food came in. Honestly, absolutely delicious... everything. The patty itself felt just so... clean. We had ours medium rare, and I must say I've never had it delivered so perfectly done. So much that I suppose most people would think it's too rare. My wife -who isn't exactly a burger person, and didn't really want to come here to begin with, said 'Best Burger I've ever had'. It was dripping egg yolk, dripping mushrooms, dripping sauces but not grease. That's the best thing. It wasn't a greasy patty. Just pure flavor. My personal favorite was the Euro burger, thanks in large to the roasted tomatoes and the perfectly fluffy goat cheese. As for the fries, another slam dunk. While the sweet potato fries were slim and super crispy, never getting soggy throughout the meal, the truffle fries were my favorite thanks to the thicker cuts, although they surprisingly were a little soggy. They need to work on that, but it wasn't a big deal because of how incredible the house ketchup was. We never had anything like that, so much that my wife was determined to find the recipe so we can have it everyday at home. The honey jalapeño aioli was perfectly mild, but my favorite dip was the truffle one. Best thing? There's no dip anxiety, there was a little left over dip of each one.
I'm not sure where the bad reviews were coming from. Probably people who tried the Vegas branch years ago and their memories are clouded with nostalgic bias? It's unclear, but I'm so glad we came in and can't wait to try the other selections on the menu.
Edit: We went back after several months, and it was still just as good. This time I had the Hell's Kitchen burger, and I actually loved it a little more than the Euro which I loved as well. The roasted jalapeños have a very slight kick to them, but nothing that will have you rushing for water. I do strongly recommend against the Hot Dog. We were curious because many reviews and our previous server recommended it. Nope. Literally any normal Hot Dog in Chicago will be a better choice. It was sloppy to eat, the ketchup mixed with mustard was a no no, missed the Vienna Beef snap, and the pickel on top vs a snappy spear, nah. Otherwise, burgers were great. Service was fantastic on a busy Memorial...
Read moreTldr; Over all 4 out of 5 on this restaurant, is it great yea! Is there more potential to what the restaurant can bring? Of course! I think if you want to check it out as a once in a while thing or a one time stop. Go right ahead. I dont think it warrants two trips unless the menu changes.
Long review below vvv
This just opened recently, and I have to say the wait time is crazy long, but it is expected with what name the restaurant carries.
We waited a good hour exactly for a seat, and we came on a friday night, 5-7 pm. So wait times are high and no way to make a reservation on their website or reservation apps.
We are in mid winter in Chicago, so let me tell you while you are waiting for a table inside those windows, let in so much cold air! And we got seated by windows near the bar and those windows were letting in so much cold air that it was hard to sit and eat without shivering, if you can ask for a seat away from the windows for a better seating experience in winter.
Now, let's get down to the food. We ordered the hellfire chicken wings, truffle fries, beer battered onion rings, a backyard burger, a farmhouse burger, and the oreo shake for dessert.
The chicken wings were good! But they tasted like they were dipped in valentina sauce and weren't at all hellfire spicy, but they weren't bad at all 3 out 5.
The truffle fries were actually great; it's a mix of sea salt and black truffle, and the dips were amazing! Plus, you can share this with someone so the value is there if you think about it in terms of price. If you are a fan of truffle flavored items, this is something I would recommend 5 out of 5
The onion rings were a bit soggy, not that crunchy. The onions retained a lot of that moisture into the batter, so maybe I just didn't have the greatest crunchy ones, but the flavor was all there! The batter was great; the dips were great! I just wish there was a bit more of that umph to the crunch 4 out 5.
Both the burgers are done to the meat temp of your choice, and the medium rare was great! It actually was medium rare and not well pretending to be medium rare. I just think the flavors in addition on the burgers could of had a bit more creativity for this being a burger joint i was expecting Gordon Ramsey to have unique and exotic burgers on the menu. Were the burgers great, yes, could they step up their creations, hell yes. 3 out of 5 I hope the choice of burgers changes with time.
The desert is limited, but the oreo shake with creme bruelle is straight fire! It's sweet and cream but not over powering on both sides. It's a great way to end the meal with someone or by yourself, 5 out of 5.
