Two of us walked into the restaurant with a lot of excitement and expectations for the experiences, ever since I saw this place filled with a crowd on a day when I was driving by. Unfortunately, I must be honest it began with disappointments.
The website is outdated. Price online was 35, in actuality it is 39 now. The corkage fee is said to be free with a fee of $2 per glass online, but we were told that there is corkage fee of $5 per person. There were missing options and also alot more menus with the additional cost of $10 on the menu from the restaurant in comparison to the one their website.
The cucumber salad was so called "crab meat stick cucumber sald". Personally, I had thought that this can be seen as deceptive, but the waitress' responded that crab meat stick refers to imitation crab (I can clear see many reviewers who believe it as crab). Searching for deep and rich flavor became exploration and the familar meaty and mouth watering monosodium glutamate was overbeating. Lobster tail salad entailed nothing but the fancy looks, and quite dry of complexity in flavor.
I quite understand the inevitable pre-made parts of dishes due to a wide range of options in all sections of course menus (I was curious to how the restaurant was managing such a big menu prior to my visit). With this said, the Shanghai Style Beef dimsum was a continuation of the salads. It came in a what seems to be a decorative steamer, because the dough was hardened in the shape of a dimsum that just came out of a steamer. Dough was thick, little to no juice inside the dumpling, and cold. I really had wished the dimsums were freshly steamed to give an honest opinion on the taste. With all due respect and honesty, I would rather eat dimsums from Chinatown.
Despite what I would call less than ideal experiences from this place, I have to give some credits for their Lamb Racks. The Plum and Bonito Flake sauce was unique and provided a enjoyable experience every bite. The medium-rare doneness was matched to my request. The complexity of this flavor was intriguing my taste buds, so I had to ask for what the combination was to find out.
Overall, I had wish that the menu was narrower to increase attention and specialization on each menu. Clear focus on high quality ingredients, while developing complexity in the flavor. Instead of priortizing exterior and visible factors of the experiences, I was seeking for a unique flavor trip on my tongue. I am a firm believer of local restaurants needing help from consumers as it is extremely tough, but restaurant is to deliver delicious flavors to...
Read moreHan 202 is a modern Asian fusion restaurant located in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood. I have written multiple reviews on TripAdvisor and Yelp consistently and most accurately describing this quaint restaurant as a "Hidden Gem." Our most recent dining experience on Mother's Day was consistent with past visits.
Hans stands out due to its inventive takes on traditional Chinese dishes offering a unique dining experience that blends contemporary presentation with bold, comforting flavors. The restaurant's sleek, minimalist interior and intimate setting features clean white tablecloths, soft lighting, and a calm, understated elegance. With limited seating, Han 202 provides a cozy and personal dining environment, making it ideal for date nights or small gatherings.
Han 202 is renowned for its prix fixe tasting menu, which offers a curated selection of dishes that change seasonally, but be careful about supplemental charges for some menu items. Diners can expect a multi-course meal that showcases a fusion of Asian flavors with modern culinary techniques; THIS CHEF IS 5 STARS!
The salads are all fresh. The appetizers unique--BEST SHRIMP TOAST ANYWHERE. Signature dishes include inventive takes on classics, such as Chilean Seabass (pictured), duck with hoisin reduction, and delicate dumplings. The Ribeye & Lobster is divine. Lobster tails cooked to perfection. All of the varied menu offerings are OUTSTANDING! Just make certain that you save room for the Hot Chocolate Souffle for desert.
The attentive staff ensures that each course is timed perfectly, allowing guests to savor the progression of flavors throughout the meal. The service from a restaurant with TWO waiters, one doubling as the greeter, a Head Chef and a Sous Chef is remarkably...
Read moreMy friends and I dined here this evening and I started writing this review as soon as I got home. Our experience overall was phenomenal. The service was fantastic. The food was exquisite and came out fairly quickly.
Cocktails: I had the "Smoke Show" cocktail, was so great that I had two of them. Two of my friends ordered the French 75, which they loved.
Food: The four us shared the Koren Fried Chicken (4 pieces) as an appetizer and then each of us ordered the prix fixe menu. We all had the lobster beet starter. For the second course, I ordered the crab cake, while my friends ordered the diver scallops and the dumplings. All were delicious - no disappointments. For the main/third course, I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, and everyone else ordered the duck. And for dessert, three of us ordered the lemon cheesecake, and one person ordered the blueberry cake.
I would return to this restaurant without hesitation. I was surprised that there were so few people on a Saturday, but part of the reason could be the location. It is not in a lively, restaurant-heavy area, and it is hard to tell from the outside that the restaurant is even open. But once you enter, it is an adorable place with a clean, aesthetically pleasing design.
I'm happy that my friend found this place. All four of us enjoyed our meals and would...
