Mom's Place - A Chicago Gathering Spot — Restaurant in Chicago

This review is solely on the karaoke. My bride and I came here on our wedding night. We went to the DJ to put our names on the list and asked how long. My wife tried the whole "it's my wedding night" thing to try to get fast-tracked, but the DJ was like "I can't just let you skip 20 people". We were standing there in a tuxedo and a wedding dress. Okay...fair enough. We didn't come here to cut the line. I think that's a little wild, but honestly it's not a big deal.

We put our names down and went back to our party, enjoyed some drinks, danced, and sang with the crowd. The bartenders were cool and drinks were good. At some point, a guy was beginning his song but there were these dudes who were being really loud and yelling (they weren't paying attention to the karaoke). The DJ saw this go down and restarted the song for him.

Fast forward to my wife's turn. We waited patiently and it was finally her turn. I pulled out my phone to record the moment. As she starts singing, the group of loud drunk dudes start singing "Happy Birthday". They were in front of the stage with their backs to the mic and singing at the top of their lungs. The DJ did nothing. Maybe he wasn't paying attention. All I know is that I now have this lovely video of my wife awkwardly singing while a bunch of drunk guys shove each other and laugh. A memory that I'll tell my grandkids about.

Honestly, I'd probably come back a different night and try again. I think there was a cover that night, but it was no big deal. Like I said, the drinks were good and the staff was cool and chill. There was a live band tearing down on the other side when we walked in so it seems like they have a lot of cool...

I wanted to write this review, because me and a group of my friends decided to visit this place to drink and do karaoke. After walking in, my friends wanted to get on the list to sing first before doing anything else, and we were told by the bouncer that we would have to buy a drink. I have no problem with this since that is apart of the plan. When my group decided to go ahead and figure out what we wanted to order the bouncer came over and said that we needed to hurry and order or else get kicked out. We were in there for less than two to three minutes.

I don’t know if they don’t believe a group of black and Latino people will spend money, but telling someone that they have to immediately buy a drink without looking at what they want is ridiculous. Especially when white people were not told to immediately buy nor constantly harassed.

To anyone who reads these reviews to see if a place is good to attend I advise you take your business someplace else. This business obviously doesn’t know what customer service is especially when you read their replies to bad reviews.

Edit: as you can see from the response, terrible business and I would not recommend anyone to go there with such a terrible owner. Also to the owner go ahead and post the video because as you will see in the end before we left we were looking at the drink menu to purchase something, but I did not like their tone. So yeah,...

I may be a little late writing my review since returning from my trip to Chicago, but my thoughts about this place need to be read.

The bad reviews is what drove us to mom’s place because we needed to see how “horrible” everyone made this bar out to be and also in hopes to meet the mastermind behind all the hilarious responses.

I am so sorry for the people that had such a bad time at moms, it was most likely the people they went with. My husband and I had an AMAZING time. Jason, the bartender, was great! He was funny and sarcastic, what a great combo from your bartender huh?! He took care of us which is beyond appreciated and really made our time there special. We met a bunch of perfect strangers to make our night one to remember.

And let me not get started on the smash burger! Oh my goodness it was delicious!!!!!! The way the cheese melted on the patty, it was just the perfect bite!

Please don’t let the haters and these reviews that don’t make sense stop you from having a fun night at moms. GREAT FOOD GREAT MUSIC and GREAT VIBES is all you get from this bar!

Mom and dad you guys are great! Keep doing big things and we hope to be back sooner than later. I must eat another smash burger!!! And Jason if you read - I yawned when I wrote the party about you hahaha!
