I formerly knew this so-called Byrne Plaza Park as Water Tower Park. And I rather fancy it being referred to as such, for reasons that should be obvious to any local. That is, Water Tower Park is both a description and a nameâexactly as most things should be.
For instance, if McDonaldâs were referred to as âoverpriced food of the sickly,â it would be an admirable name to adopt, even if it wouldnât exactly behoove corporate leadership to embrace it.
Imagine something formally titled the Chromatic Eyesore, or the Obese Oblong. That might be descriptive, and youâd say thatâs well and good, but itâs nothing compared to the name âThe Bean,â which is descriptive just the way I like itâeven if the sculpture itself is polished rubbish for the cityâs true blight: tourists. This took some time to even convince Google of the name change, after multiple correction attempts along with supporting evidence only to come back as denied it was finally changed to the correct name.
