Stan's Donuts & Coffee — Restaurant in Chicago

I was here today and I am a regular customer as I live on the same block. Usually I have had average service but today was really bad. I walk in and I was right behind another customer who got to the counter right before me. There were three employees behind the counter. One of the employees began to wait on the customer in front of me. She was taking a long time, asking a lot of questions and deciding what she wanted. So the employee waiting on her turned to another employee and asked if she could help me. The two other employees were not doing anything other than talking to each other. This employee looked at me and asked me what I wanted. I pointed to one of the donuts. She then responded, very tersely, "well there's a line". I was very taken aback because she asked me what I wanted. I asked her why she asked me what I wanted then and she didn't respond. The other employee then said well can you just help him. So she then looked at me again and asked me what I wanted then. I was extremely frustrated and insulted at that point so I said "nothing" and turned around and walked out.

To be clear, I was not angry that I was waiting or the other customer being slow. I was angry by the way this employee, who wasn't doing anything, talked to me. As someone who has worked in customer service, I always value the customer and do everything to help them even if they are being rude (which I was not). Again, she asked me what I wanted and wasn't doing anything. I was not trying to cut in line. There was only one other customer there who was being waited on.

Also, I am giving them two stars because the donuts and coffee are good. However, I will not be back to this...

Stan’s Donuts has definitely become one of my favorite spots! The store was clean, and the friendly atmosphere made my visit so enjoyable. Everything was quick and efficient, but what truly stood out was the excellent customer service.

Special shoutout to Tanya, who was amazing! She was very knowledgeable about the drinks and made the perfect recommendation for my Pumpkin Spice Latte. It was delicious – you could taste each layer of flavor, and it gave me the perfect energy boost.

Stan's Donuts is hands down one of my go-to spots for a sweet treat in the city. I grabbed a classic maple bacon donut (which was fire) and a cold brew on tap—perfect combo for a quick pick-me-up. The donuts are next-level, seriously the fluffiest I’ve ever had, and the variety they’ve got is wild. The vibe inside is super chill, too, with the trendy décor and friendly staff making it a great place to kick back. Spent around $12, but worth every penny for the quality of the donuts and coffee.
