UMe Tea — Restaurant in Chicago

This place is everything and more! Everyone else giving poor reviews really have something up their bums because I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my time tonight. Today was their grand opening. I’ve been to a couple of grand openings in the past and this one, in my opinion, was executed amazingly!

My coworker and I got off just after 6. We headed straight over. She stood in line while I looked for parking. We had arrived at about 6:40. They warned her it was a 3hr wait from where she was standing, they would close at 9:30, couldn’t promise we would make it in. We were willing to wait and I had been hyped up to visit since their stories hit my IG feed.

While we waited, they passed out super cute balloons, gave discount cards to everyone, stood in line with us not only to turn others away but also engaging with us. Everyone was amazing and gave the best service.

The best and worse part is they stayed open for all of us. We didn’t get to order until about 11:30. We received our boba and popcorn chicken by 11:40. We had been there for 5 hours but it really did not feel like that. I am forever grateful to the entire staff for going above and beyond to still satisfy everyone who had waited. They even accommodated a couple of families that came in quite late to the line.

Once inside, they treated us to free fries for our patience. Their fries were great with a nice chili pepper rub which reminded me of a restaurant long gone by my home my cousin and I would frequent after every swim at the pool.

We ordered two surprise boba each, popcorn chicken, and a lot of merch. I didn’t have time to take pics of everything but can not say enough of amazing the staff was and the long day they all put in. I plan on returning many many more times. I’m going to need a rewards card lol because I absolutely love Ume...

I do wish to share my recent experience with the team directly before putting review but I couldn't find a direct contact on your website. Just some recommendation with my recent experience as a long-term customer. I placed an order through Chowbus at 3:53 PM on 2/18/24, with an expected pick-up time of 4:18 PM. Upon my arrival, my order was not ready and, unfortunately, it was missing. Despite this initial setback, the employee was courteous and promptly remade the order. However, this process took an additional 30 minutes. To compensate for the extended wait, I received a 10% coupon, which I appreciate. However, my dissatisfaction continued when I discovered that my drink had spilled in the bag, and the cup of tea was broken at the bottom. This not only resulted in a waste of money but also created a mess in my car and on my clothes. Given the circumstances, I chose not to return for the tea to avoid another lengthy wait. As a long-term customer, I have noticed a decline in the quality of the drinks. The taste has become flavorless and watery, which is disappointing considering the consistent quality I had previously enjoyed. While I understand that busy days can be challenging, I believe it is essential to maintain the expected standard, especially since customers are paying for a premium product. I share this feedback with the intention of constructive improvement, as I do always go to Ume lol.I trust that you will take my comments into consideration to enhance the overall customer experience and product quality.
