One-liner: The most sub par Dim Sum experience I have had in my life.
Bullet points: Chicken feet was great 8/10 Turnip cake was good 7/10 Yangzhou fried rice was ok, under seasoned and the roasted meat was tasteless and dry. 6/10 Shrimp dumpling was ok. The shrimp was given generously but the dumpling as a whole was tasteless.5/10 Shrimp Shumai was similar to the dumplings. 5/10 金菇牛腸粉 (I think that is what it's called). Terrible. The dish was served lukewarm, and does not have much taste in it. The meat in it had a starchy texture without any taste. It was almost like eating tasteless apple sauce while I was expecting the flavor of beef. 0/10 XLB was the biggest disappointment of the night. Coming from Taiwan, I was expecting XLB that is fresh in firm but thin dough wrapping up delicious broth and fresh ground pork with scallions. The XLB here came in little tin cups that looked like it came out of a box from the store. The meat inside the XLB was tasteless, starchy, and pink. I have eaten way too many XLB in my life to think that it is normal to have an XLB like that. When I asked the wait staff, I was told that is how they get the XLB to have broth inside. They then told me that it is different from ones in China or Taiwan and it is delicious that way. I have never had such a disappointing XLB experience. 0/10 Wait staff attitude and service was unprofessional. The wait staff did not introduce how the ordering was done, even though at the time there were about 5 other tables in this big restaurant. I had to ask for soy sauce 3 times before the actual soy sauce was delivered to me. The first time they gave me chili oil, the second time they gave me sweet soy paste (some call it thick soy sauce but ti delivers a drastically different flavor than soy sauce), and the third time they brought a bottle of Kikoman soy sauce without any dipping container so I had to ask for that an extra time.
My roommate and I ended up paying $55 for the meal (about 17.5% tip) but we are less than thrilled about our entire dining experience there. I personally will not go back to this...
Read moreThis place suppose to be one of the premium restaurants in Chicago's Chinatown. What a disappointment! Came yesterday with my family to have dinner. We've arrived around 5:30 PM, was seated promptly, then the lady owner came to take our order, we asked if Dim Sum were available or not, she told us NO Dim Sum after 3:30 PM. So we placed our order, then we waited. And waited for 30 minutes before we were served a bowl of lukewarm soup. Then we waited another 30 minutes until we got our first dish, then more waiting for the other dishes. We've repeatedly asked the waiter where were our other dishes, because people who were seated after us were getting their dishes. We were told the computer was down, so orders have not been placed. Then the owner came out and said everything is fixed and we will be getting our dishes. Another 20 minutes later, we got our second dish, but then we had lost our patience and asked for the bill and cancelled the remaining dishes since a hour and half has gone by and we have only gotten a bowl of lukewarm soup, 2 blend taste dishes. Miraculous, the minute we tried to cancel the remaining dishes, they were available and the waiter was trying to serve them. But we have had enough by that point, the food was blend, very salty, and in such small portion it should be a crime for what the place were charging us. To add insult to injury, the next table was getting Dim Sum after the owner said NO DIM SUM after 3:30 PM. What an awful experience! I would have given a zero star if I could. Avoid this place at all cost, take your hard earned money...
Read moreJust had dinner there tonight, the lady manager who was not in the waiter uniform took our order, was being very friendly at first but after we finished the dinner the check came and if was over 100$ than what it was suppose to be, at that time the lady manager was no where to be found, so I had to go over everything on the order again with another waiter, just to make sure there is no mistake, we ordered a set course which came with 5 dishes and soup at around 178$ and two more dishes later on since the portion wasn't enough to feed 5 people, total three things should be on the check with no drinks. so it was really easy to add up. Then I found out she added another dish that we did not order so we thought that was a mistake on her part no big deal. Then we check it again the check came with 18% gratuity which is no problem but they added extra 10% "tax" on to the gratuity and added all that up then put the actual sales tax at the end. If you didn't read the check closely you would missed it and the way the check is organized is very clustered very hard to read. During all this time we were arguing with the waiter the lady manager is no where to be found. The waiter didn't know where she is. After all is done and finished we were walking out the door she suddenly appeared act like nothing happened. It was a very bad dining experience felt like I was in a different country where they are purposely trying to scam foreign tourist. If you decided to go there please read the...
