A few thoughts - first of all I think this place is the best all you can eat sushi restaurant in Chicago. The staff is super sweet, the food is AMAZING, and it’s very very clean/good vibes.
I am a regular and get all you can eat 1-2 times a month for the last 2 years. The day side staff knows me and always asks if I’m by myself or with my brother. Today though I had a bad experience that just really made me feel not appreciated.
We came in and ordered like usual. We get these two appetizers and then lots of sushi roles. They were moderately busy and our appetizers came out quickly - 8 fried shrimp and 5 fried calamari. Then 20 min later we still didn’t have food so we asked to check on it and then 20 more minutes and still no food so we asked to check on it, and then 10 min more and still no food and we asked again. We had been there right at an hour. I am not over exaggerating. My brother and I hadn’t talked/really seen each other for 3 weeks and were catching up but we were actually there a whole hour at this point and the appetizers were settled in our stomach where we were still head hungry but physically had no appetite. The manager came over and apologized and said they had t put our food in after we had asked 3 times to check over the hour and we said we needed to go because it was Friday lunch and we had work.
We asked to just pay for the appetizers we ordered and they said sure and that they’d give us half off. They charged us $18 and some change plus tip for 8 shrimp and 5 pieces of calamari. - not to be that guy but I was actually taken back they made us pay. We are very very very good regulars, legidamently go 1-2 times a month consistently and I really think the only correct response was an apology and to let us leave without paying. They took an hour of our time, with us nicely checking in and again are regulars.
There is a new sushi place that just opened below that we will be trying. I really feel disrespected by them as I exclusively come here and no other spots and tell people and to charge us $18 plus tip for their mistake is just not respectful...
Read moreI heard about this restaurant from TikTok, and I was really excited to try it out. She made the all-you-can-eat sushi sound like something you just HAD to try. It was not. That's to say, it wasn't any better or worse than most similar places that are already out there. I went on a late Saturday afternoon. The first thing that struck me when I got in was that there was no hostess station or no one to greet you. However, this restaurant is NOT seat yourself. So my companion and I and two other groups were just kind of milling near the front wait for about 20 minutes or so. We finally got seated after I called the restaurant from my phone. After we were seated, the next thing I noticed was the table wasn't properly cleaned off and was a little sticky, as was the soy sauce container. There was a large party seated near us with about 5-7 kids running around and playing, wrestling even. No one said anything. This actually didn't bother me because they weren't super loud and I like to see kids having fun. But if that is something that might annoy you, then be aware. The menu is decently extensive. There are portions of it illustrated on the tables, which I thought was neat, but the descriptions don't always match what's on the printed menu. I got four rolls, a spicy scallop appetizer, and a house salad. The quality of the sushi is what you would expect at an all you can eat place. Some of the tuna was mushy. Some of the salmon still had traces of skin on it, but all in all, it was tasty and I ate my fill. I think it might be a little overpriced for what they're providing, but it seems like everything is overpriced now, so they're probably on par with their peers. Even though we started eating well before lunch was over, we ended a little after dinner, so that was the price they charged. They also validate parking. If I were to go back, I'd want to try the ala carte options to see if they're any better. But I will be a minute before I...
Read moreThe quality of food was not worth the lackluster service and disappointing experience. I love sushi as much as the next person but it's not worth the wait and weird vibes.
I went in a group of three, we all opted in for the "all you can eat' option. It took us over an hour to get the entirety of what we ordered out. This was the first time me and the two other guests went. No one asked if we had been there before or explained how it works. Luckily there's a little sheet on the table so we figured it out. The first time someone actually spoke to us directly was to ask us if the table next to us got up and left. We then waited a few more minutes for someone to come take our order silently (based on the sheet we filled out that's on the table).
The fried things came out relatively at a good time and were very hot and fresh. I enjoyed the fried oysters. However, since the specialty sushi rolls were taking so long (we had been seated for over an hour and half of what we ordered still wasn't out) we were recommended to order more fried appetizers. Keep in mind, this is an AYCE sushi place that charges you for every piece that you don't finish. Since we were all hungry we did order more fried appetizers that ended up coming out with all of our sushi. It was a very strange experience to wait hours for food and then when it's there not want to eat it. There was nothing wrong with the sushi it was fine. I also never received my salmon skin salad that I had ordered which I was very interested in trying.
As other reviews have said they do include their tip in the price, which I feel like it a common city thing. Off the bat though the experience was strange and the looong wait time did not help. I'm lucky I went with people I enjoy spending time and we could joke about it after.
Just a very strange experience and wasted hours of our trip just to sit and wait for about average sushi. The salmon nigiri was...
