As a vegetarian, I definitely have to appreciate their effort to creating an Asian style menu to cater to vegetarians and vegans (one star for that). Their house fried rice was simple and minimalistic yet elegant and flavorful, we paired it with the Mongolian Soy beef and it was a hit! I ordered the Taiwan noodles, it was slightly weak on the flavor profile and a tad too oily, but I liked the taste overall. The only disappointment in our order was the Three cup sauce Lion's mane mushroom, I personally did not like the excessively chewy fibery texture of the mushroom or the (excessively) vinegary-sweet three cup sauce.I had to get over the mushroom entree with another order of the house fried rice and it worked like a charm! Oh and yes, we did order a plate of the dumplings, it didn't live up to our great expectation following their amazing fried rice and the soy beef entree. The stuffing lacked flavor and the different dumpling wraps all rasted the same to me, the sauce wasn't strong enough to make up for the lackluster flavor, not a memorable dumpling experience overall. It is definitely a must-try place for vegetarians and vegans! Kudos to the chefs and owners for their ingenuity in their...
Read moreI've never been a big fan of Chinese food, it was always rather bland and the old cliche was true -- I was hungry an hour later. Not this time! I ordered the vegetable spring rolls and the Curry Mixed Vegetable. Being vegan, I'm not sure the spring rolls were completely vegan because they came out looking fried, not in rice paper like I'm used to seeing. But they were good, and four were quite filling. The surprise was the curry! I wasn't aware there was even a kind of Chinese curry and this was delicious. Not like Jamaican, Indian, or Thai curry - a flavor unique all to itself. Not sweet, not hot, but deep and rich. I would totally love to find this type of curry elsewhere. My friend ordered the pumpkin soup and the Three Cup Sauce Lion's Mane and she liked it pretty well. We had a nice day to sit outside in their seating area and watch the tourists and locals alike shop Chinatown. Our waiter was friendly, but seemed to disappear after we ordered. We waited a long time to pay for our meal and he never came around again, so we flagged down another waiter and then we were all good. Great spot for a tasty bite in...
Read moreI’ve been here twice and the food has always been pretty solid; not mind-blowing but will satisfy your meatless cravings for a typically meat-centric cuisine. After all, I believe this is the only fully vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown, so major props to that.
It’s also much less busy than all the other restaurants in the new Chinatown square—both times I’ve been here, during an otherwise bustling weekend afternoon, it’s been pretty empty with no wait.
I’ve tried the following dishes, all of which were solid (= especially recommend): Fried turmeric wood ear mushrooms: Amazing crispy texture and flavor House tofu** Mongolian soy beef: The soy beef was well sautéed and had a nice meat-like texture, though a little lacking in flavor Veggie dumplings Spicy dumplings: This dish was the weakest compared to the rest, and also wasn’t spicy
The prices are pretty reasonable and comparable to other Asian vegan restaurants I’ve come across. The service is friendly, and the restaurant is quiet, clean and...
