I was in Chico visiting for training. I did a Google search to find a local pizza place by the slice. Celestino’s New York Pizza came up and had an excellent review. I decided to go there to have a quick slice of pizza. To my dismay when I arrive there, I saw a hand scribbled note taped to a pole stating that you had to go to a window to order. I approached the window. Nobody was even standing at the register. I observed a female and several males working behind the counter and talking to each other in the back of the restaurant. There were no other customers. After some time, the female finally approached the counter to take my order. I asked about their calzones and what was in them since I don’t order them very often. She rolled her eyes and with an attitude explained that the calzones only came in one size large and that were $8.99, then giving me an assortment of different types of combinations I can get in a calzone including one that I could add up five of my own ingredients. She came off as perturbed that she had to explain what was in a Calzone and seemed in a hurry. So, to make life easy I ordered a slice of sausage pizza and a bottled water. In the meantime, while waiting in the heat, I observed a small family order a pizza and some water. The family then walked to their car to sit in it with the mother stating that it was too hot to stand outside and wait for their order. The female who I was dealing with the above and who had taken the order of the family then appeared out a side door and yelled several waters, placing several plastic cups and straws onto a dirty table outside the restaurant. She looked around and walked back in the restaurant and out of view before anybody picked them up. Another gentleman had approached to order a slice of pepperoni pizza. She took his order immediately and within less than 30 seconds appeared out the side door yelling a slice of pepperoni pizza placing the piece of pizza and uncovered paper plate on the same dirty table outside the restaurant; before walking back into the restaurant and out of view. I approached the window again to find out about my order. Again, I had to wait some time before same female approached the window. With the same attitude, she stated sometimes it takes time. I told her I just saw several people order and get their food in a very fast time. Again, she rolled her eyes and said, it takes time for some types of pizza. At is point I was so disgusted that I told her to throw the piece of pizza in the garbage and I would go someplace else. Before I left, I again saw her exit out the side door put a box of pizza and, brown paper bag on the same dirty table on the side of the restaurant table announcing that pizza was ready. She then walked back into the side door before anybody picked up the upped the order. This type of service does not seem very sanitary. In addition, if you have a family and kids, this may not be a good place to eat. There is no seating or shade near the window in which you order food. I found it very hot and uncomfortable while I am waiting for the food in which I never received. This would’ve been a much better experience without the female server’s attitude. She could’ve taken the time to explain that it may take several minutes to cook the type of slice of pizza that I wanted. On another note, don’t order the bottled water unless you want Aqua Fina. In addition, who wants to receive their food on a dirty table outside the restaurant. As I drove away, I saw the female and another male worker standing outside the restaurant. They looked at me and then began to laugh. Maybe this place works for the University of California Chico students in which the University is across the street. But, for other individuals and families this place did live up to the to the...
Read moreI wish I didn't have to leave such a terrible review. I'm a local chicoan, born and raised, and celestino's makes hands-down the best pizza in Chico. Despite being run by college kids the employees there are polite and helpful. I cannot say the same after being helped by the owner. Unfortunately celestino's does not honor their own advertising. If you look on the very front door (on the right) of celestino's restaurant they have a very large poster advertising the student special which is advertised with a medium-sized drink. I ordered the student special and received a small drink, so I asked for a larger cup and the girl working the counter told with me that a small cup is what's given after 1 p.m. and she does not know why there's a size difference after that time of day. I accepted that as an answer, thinking to myself that it did not make sense. As I was filling up the small size cup, I was approached by the owner who came out to convince me that this small cup I was given was in fact 16 ozs. I did not care how many ounces the cup was, I did not ask. I had only pointed out to the cashier that the advertisement included a medium-sized drink and that is what I expected. The owner then wasted approximately 7 minutes of my time arguing the fact that the advertisement is given by the Coca-Cola company and not celestino's. I have never had such a terrible lecture arise from a misunderstanding. It was an awful and embarrassing situation. I was spoken down to and lectured and publicly embarrassed, when all I wanted to know was why my drink was smaller than the one in the advertisement. It will still be my pleasure to tell anyone who will listen that celestino's makes the best pizza in Chico. However I feel now that it will also be necessary to share my degrading treatment by the owner with everybody who wants to listen to me say how delicious...
Read moreI recently dined at Celestino's NY Pizza with my girlfriend for dinner on May 28, 2023, and unfortunately, our experience with the spaghetti and meatballs left much to be desired.
Both of us ordered the spaghetti with meatballs, and I must say I was quite disappointed with the dish. The presentation was underwhelming, as the meal was served in a disposable container. The lackluster appearance of the dish seemed to match the overall quality of the meal itself.
The spaghetti with meatballs failed to meet my expectations. The flavors were mediocre, and the dish lacked the depth and richness that one would hope for in a classic Italian pasta. I found the meatballs to be bland, and the spaghetti itself was lacking the desired flavor.
I do regret not ordering their renowned pizza, as it seems to be their specialty and what they are known for. Perhaps opting for their pizza would have resulted in a more satisfying meal. It is worth noting that the disappointment with the spaghetti does not necessarily reflect the quality of their pizza offerings, which may be worth exploring.
The service at Celestino's NY Pizza was average. The staff was polite, but there was nothing particularly exceptional or memorable about the service experience.
In conclusion, my dining experience at Celestino's NY Pizza left me wanting for more. The spaghetti with meatballs fell short in terms of flavor, texture, and presentation. I do regret not trying their pizza, as it is their reputed specialty. If you choose to dine at Celestino's NY Pizza, I would recommend exploring their pizza offerings rather than opting for...
