My husband and I just dined for the first (and only) time at Rancher's daughter in the Hotel Katerina in Chico. They have been open for over a month, but they don't have it down yet.
We called ahead and made a reservation - called about 15 minutes ahead. There isn't much parking for guests of the restaurant and/or bar. They have placed the EV charging parking in the premium location close to the front door. We were lucky and got the last parking place.
The restaurant looks like most hotel dining establishments. I would expect to have a breakfast buffet there the next morning if we were guests at the hotel. The hotel looks clean as it should as it's very new. They seem to be confused between focusing on upscale and 'farmers' atmosphere.
The hostess confirmed our reservation and showed us to our table. She indicated that they were a 'full house' and the kitchen may be slow. After being seated, I counted empty tables/chairs and they had open seating for at least 20 more diners - in a small dining room. So they were about half full. The kitchen staff appeared busy as you can view them through the window and see their monitor with the orders displayed.
Our waiter was friendly and seemed a bit overwelmed. Service was slow all service. We ordered a drink, which came from the bar. $15 for a cocktail and $6 for a beer. About average pricing for dining out.
The menu has many items to select from. My husband had the cauliflower pastat dish (no protein) $32 - yikes! I had the scallops with resotto and arugula. It came out with 4 scallops! $34 ouch.
Flavor was good, portions are small, prices are high and the service is slow. We won't be back. There are too many options in Chico to do this again. Sorry...
Read moreNot sure why they are open before their grand opening, as they have a lot of work to be any bit successful. This restaurant is located in a hotel. The price of the food is spendy but not because of the quality ingredients but rather just gouging hotel guests I suspect. The complementary cornbread smelled and tasted like plastic, we couldn't even eat it. Then we both got a smash burger. Completely tasteless! We were asked how everything was and we were honest, including not wanting a box for the uneaten hamburger. I would think that a business might want to make things better when you obviously didn't like your meal,.... Not here, they just presented the check, I guess assuming that hotel guests won't be back anyway. We literally picked up some burritos after this horrible experience. Even if you are stuck as a hotel guest, I would recommend walking somewhere near by than waste...
Read moreVery disappointing experience.
Was looking to another addition to the Chico food scene, but this is not it.
Drinks are absolutely awful, the bartender had no sense of hygiene and wiped away the rim into a drink. Multiple drinks tasted awful.
Steak was unevenly cooked, poorly seasoned, and their loaded potatoes was barely a step above a frozen TV dinner.
Scallops were also unevenly cooked and the risotto was also not appetizing.
I understand they are new, but this type of quality and style cannot be fixed unless you bring a new chef or crew to retrain the kitchen staff.
Overall, we had high expectations based on the review, but the food is just overpriced, bland, and lacks any sort of captivating effect.
5th street or even Logan steakhouse are better priced with better quality.
I would never recommend or bring family...
