Dawson's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Childress

We were in town for the high school rodeo on 3/23. Came in between some of my little sisters events since we had a bit of time and hadn’t eaten anything all weekend except fast food and wanted to sit down and eat a meal. We got there at 10:19, sat down and ordered drinks and then food. We waited for almost an hour for our food. It was not busy by any means, there were probably 3 other tables with people seated. The waitress refilled out drinks but never gave any indication on if the food was started or if it would be coming out shortly, or even let us know that they were short handed and that it would be a minute (which would have been the correct thing to do). After an hour we decided that maybe we would cancel what we had ordered and eat the buffet since that was now open and would have been quicker than waiting another hour to get our food. One of the people in our party asked the waitress if our order had been started and mentioned to her that we are in kind of a rush now, she did tell us that it was currently being made. We gave it about 20 more minutes and decided that we did not have time to wait anymore, we were now cutting it close to get back to the rodeo before we missed our event. We told the waitress that we needed to cancel our order and she very rudely responded with, “K bye”. The waitress in the pink shirt on this day should be fired. We tried to be polite, we tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but she just plain sucked...

I had a very pleasing experience at this restaurant. I had driven through the night and was ready for a hearty breakfast but yhe time was 11:18a.m. and they stopped serving breakfast at 11:00 and start their lunch menu. The waitress could see my disappointed look and said she'd be right back. When she returned she advised me that I would be able to order the breakfast I wanted. I did so readily and added a lunch order to take with me when I left. The food was excellent and I could tell by the interactions of the two young ladies working the floor and the conversations I over heard between them and the cook that they were either family or had been working together for a long time. Whichever the case may be, they were so observant and professional. They took care of everyone with the ease and grace of very accomplished and seasoned veterans of their business. BLAND! Best describes this place. The kids had burgers and they were actually pretty good according to them, but everything else was mediocre at best. I should have looked more closely at the buffet before I decided to get it. The veggies, limited as they were, were boiled, unseasoned mush. The fish was cooked well, but had NO flavor at all. Dousing it in tartar sauce and hot sauce did little to improve it. Oh, and the salad bar was a complete joke. Mixed lettuce from a bag, beets...really?! Beets! Black olives, cheese, sliced bell pepper chunks, sad cucumber wedges and that's it! The wife was so disheartened she just ordered chips and salsa. The chips were cooked in old grease and tasted burnt. I will, however note that our waitress was pretty nice considering the fact she was serving up some of the saddest food I've ever had. NEVER will I sit at one of their tables again and I advise you to avoid them too unless you have a hankering for really bland,...
