This restaurant is INCREDIBLE! My wife and I were looking for a romantic dinner and they delivered... Or should I say the owner himself delivered. He went out of his way to find us a seat and from there on our the evening only got better. The drinks were perfect, and the food blew our minds. We consider ourselves pretty well traveled and we enjoy dining out, this was easily in our top 5 food experiences. The owner and the employees are all very proud of their establishment and they absolutely should be. Should you ever find yourself on the island of St. Croix, do not miss this small gem of a restaurant. The food was excellent and inventive. Try the Goat Bolognese and the 1756 Burger, a twist on an old favorite with bacon jam—Yes, it’s a thing.—aged Gruyere, a special sauce, and yucca fries. As someone who spent a number of years working in a restaurant back when being personable was a huge part of the job description, it was refreshing to see how much the employees at the 1756 Grotto care about a diner’s experience. Incredibly impressed by this jewel in the heart of Christiansted. Date night so we opted for the outdoor seating. Tables were small but surprisingly comfortable for two people. Lighting was great. The roasted garlic appetizer was amazing. The focaccia was soft, fresh and warm. The melted brie and bacon jam made for the perfect ‘tapa’. I ordered the fish and chips. Fiancé ordered the steak. Both came with a side of yucca fries. The fries were a tad stale but good enough for me to eat them all. The steak cooked perfectly as requested.
